Engineer - Manufacturing Sr.
Blue Origin is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer III to lead the fabrication, integration, and optimization of cryogenic fluid systems and related propellant infrastructure for our launch vehicles and test operations. In this role, you will translate complex engineering requirements into manufacturable hardware for high-pressure fluid systems, cryogenic propellant management, and ground support equipment. Embodying our Passion for Mission, you will develop specialized fabrication processes, improve quality controls, and implement best practices for welding, joining, and testing of precision fluid systems operating in extreme conditions.
The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with cryogenic systems (LOX, LCH4, LH2), pressure vessels, or aerospace fluid applications, with a proven track record of bringing critical flight hardware from concept to implementation. With a humble and open-minded approach, you will collaborate across Blue teams, embracing our fail, learn, iterate culture to think big and be bold in delivering reliable fluid systems essential to Blue Origin's mission of building a road to space, with No Gravity Assist – only earned success through engineering excellence.
Responsibilities
- Translate engineering intent and drawings into fully functional cryogenic fluid systems hardware ready for test, qualification, and flight
- Craft manufacturing bill of materials and work instructions for precision cryogenic components and assemblies
- Provide on-floor manufacturing support for cryogenic systems integration
- Conduct design for manufacturability reviews with emphasis on cryogenic performance requirements
- Support introduction of new cryogenic products by crafting manufacturing plan artifacts including build plans, duration estimates, index plans, and tool lists
- Closely manage quality, build sequence, and schedule of cryogenic hardware throughout the manufacturing process
- Define and support repair and rework activities for cryogenic fluid systems
- Perform root cause analyses when non-conformances and escapes are identified and deploy corrective actions
- Develop processes compliant with industry quality systems such as AS9100, with special attention to cryogenic safety protocols
Minimal Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Electrical, Chemical, or Aerospace Engineering
- 5+ years of direct manufacturing and manufacturing engineering experience in aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicle structures, or similar
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing of fluid systems, including knowledge of GD&T
- Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with design, development or production of cryogenic fluid systems (LOX, LH2, LNG)
- Familiarity with cryogenic testing, safety protocols, and quality control
- Proficient with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software (Creo or CATIA V5) and AutoCAD
- Customer focused with a proven track record to work cooperatively with teams of different skills across large geographic distances
Physical Requirements
- Support production floor activities
- Climb stairs and work in small areas
- Lift and carry 40 lbs.
