Launch Infrastructure Development Team Technical Lead

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers (use as appropriate), you will join our Launch Infrastructure Development Team. In this role, you will serve as the technical lead for all fluids systems engineering aspects of launch pad construction, providing specialized expertise in cryogenic and gaseous systems implementation, analysis, and quality verification. You will work closely with construction superintendents, contractors, and cross-functional teams to help ensure fluids systems components meet Blue Origin's rigorous standards for safety, quality, and performance in this mission-critical aerospace facility.

This is a primarily on-site role based at the launch complex, given the hands-on nature of field verification and real-time coordination required during construction and commissioning activities.

Special Mentions

  • Relocation provided
  • Travel expected up to 10% of the time
  • Shifts available:
    Dayshift
  • Interviews will include a technical assessment

Key Responsibilities

  • Launch Site Engineering Support:
Serve as the on-site fluids systems technical resource during the fabrication, construction, and commissioning of launch pad facilities and ancillary infrastructure supporting LH2, LNG, LOX, LN2, GHe, GH2, GOX and GN2 systems.
  • Means & Methods Review:
Technical screening and engineering acceptance of contractor installation plans for piping, valves, pumps and vessels handling cryogenic and high-pressure gas fluids, including weld procedures, pressure testing plans, and purge/leak-check sequencing, to protect owner assets without assuming contractor liability.
  • Extreme Condition Verification:
Perform field observations and inspections of critical fluids elements designed for extreme operating conditions, including cryogenic thermal shock, high-pressure cycling, rapid chill-down, and hazardous fluid release scenarios.
  • Real-Time Field Resolution:
Collaborate to resolve design, fabrication, and construction conflicts in the field to support fast-moving launch activation timelines.
  • Large Fluids Systems Installation:
Oversee critical installations of cryogenic and gaseous piping systems, storage vessels, transfer lines, valve panels, and associated support structures for launch pad fluids infrastructure.
  • Contractor & Subcontractor Management:
Coordinate engineering compliance across multiple disciplines, working closely with construction superintendents and external general contractors on fluids system installation and testing activities.
  • Field Modifications:
Occasionally conduct piping stress calculations, code compliance reviews, and engineering analysis to verify the safety of field modifications or retrofits to existing fluids systems on launch facilities.
  • Code Compliance:
Ensure all fluids systems design, fabrication, and installation activities comply with ASME B31.3 and other applicable codes and standards governing cryogenic and pressurized gas systems.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience:

8+ years of fluids/piping systems engineering experience, including experience supporting or managing field construction, installation, or commissioning activities on industrial or critical infrastructure projects.
  • Cryogenics

    Experience:

Demonstrated hands-on experience with cryogenic fluid systems (e.g., LH2, LOX, LNG, LN2) is required.
  • Technical Knowledge:
Strong working knowledge of ASME B31.3 and other codes/standards applicable to cryogenic and gaseous fluids systems, including piping design, material selection, welding, and pressure testing requirements.
  • Compliance & Security:
Must be a U.S. citizen or national, permanent resident (Green Card holder), or otherwise compliant with ITAR/EAR aerospace security controls.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluids

    Experience:

Direct experience with one or more of the following fluids systems: LH2, LNG, LOX, LN2, GHe, GH2, GOX, GN2.
  • High-Pressure Process Gases:
Hands-on experience with high-pressure process gas systems (e.g., GHe, GH2, GN2) is highly preferred.
  • Preferred Industries:
Direct field experience with cryogenic or high-pressure gas systems in Aerospace (rocket launch pads, engine test stands), Oil & Gas (LNG facilities, cryogenic processing), Industrial Gas Production/Distribution, Petrochemical/Refining, or related critical…
