The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.
Work as a Mechanical Technician supporting the COMET contract on Kennedy Space Center. This position will support Explorations Ground Systems processing working for Ground Systems Support on mechanical systems for Launch Pad B, Transporters, and Mobile Launcher. It is for a mid-to-senior level mechanic that works well independently and as part of a team.
THIS IS A COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT REPRESENTED POSITION
Responsibilities- Perform installation, maintenance, modification, refurbishment, cleaning, troubleshooting, repair, adjustment, calibration, verification, certification, checkout, and operation of various fixed systems to include, but are not limited to: mechanical, electromechanical, hydraulic, water, HVAC, pneumatic, and lubrication systems.
- Operate fixed or mobile equipment and systems used to receive, store, treat, transfer and deliver various liquids, gases and solid commodities, hazardous waste materials or other contaminated liquids.
- Provide practical application of hand tools, power tools, and lifts to build, repair, validate, and maintain equipment per written instructions.
- Work from written, electronic, verbal instructions, blueprints, diagrams, schematics, vendor manuals, and applicable specifications and codes.
- Obtain measurements, field dimensions and other related information necessary to complete assigned tasks.

High School Diploma or equivalent and technical training in the applicable area and three years related experience.

- Must have proven troubleshooting ability, using a systematic approach in the repair of mechanical, electromechanical, hydraulic, water, HVAC, pneumatic, or lubrication systems.
- Experience with pneumatics, compressed gases, and pressure vessel systems is highly desired.
- Must possess or can obtain a Class D motor vehicle license.
- Must be able to accurately communicate ideas in writing and verbal communication.
- Must be able to climb ladders, towers, and stairs to work at heights (>300 feet) using protective equipment.
- May require physical exertion in climbing, lifting, squatting, crawling, carrying, or work in cramped quarters.
- Must work well in a team environment and interface well with the client.
Physical Requirements

- Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.
- Position may require individual to travel daily to different areas on site.
- All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and company safety standards.
- Personal computer, scanner, copy machine, telephone, laser printer, fax machine, and other office equipment including desk supplies.
- Work assignments are normally 8 hours shifts, 5 consecutive days per week.
- Must be dependable and punctual.
- Occasional overtime, sometimes with short notice, is required to meet demanding schedule
