Purpose and Scope
The Industrial Electrician will independently perform installation, maintenance, fabrication, modification, troubleshooting, repair, adjustment, calibration, potting, molding, testing and operation of high and low voltage power systems, substations, power panels, electro/mechanical, electrical/electronic equipment, and specialized systems including control circuits, sub-assemblies, PC cards, chassis, relays, protective devices, instrumentation components, PLCs, bridges, hoists, doors, motors, shop machinery, cables, lighting, appliances, clocks, gauges, meters, test equipment, gas and diesel generators, and portable electrical equipment.
Job Duties and Essential Responsibilities- Maintain, repair, adjust, operate, and test low and high voltage electrical circuits and systems for optimum efficiency.
- Test and analyze data to effect proper maintenance or adjustments to systems, including cranes, hoists, lighting, distribution systems and fire alarms.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair controls systems and printed circuit boards.
- Use electrical/electronic and mechanical test equipment, instruments, measuring devices and shop tools such as resistance soldering units, meters, scopes, probes, microbrazers, generators, and counters.
- Perform functional and operational tests of refurbished, repaired, and modified equipment.
- Assist with job layouts and bid proposals.
- Participate in extensive training to improve and maintain technical proficiency in various company product lines.
- Complete certifications as required by the company.
- Order and maintain equipment, inspect equipment routinely, and maintain logs, charts and records.
- Clean and maintain equipment and work areas.
- Maintain and use specialized tools and equipment in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
- Collaborate with Engineering personnel to enhance system performance.
- Work with verbal information, blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical publications.
- Maintain required certifications, licenses, permits and other credentials.
- Attend and participate in meetings and task force groups to integrate activities, communicate issues and maintain knowledge of new developments.
- Perform any work assigned in this classification and perform work in other classifications when incidental but necessary.
- Carry out duties in compliance with Federal, State, local, NASA and Air Force regulations and KSC/CCAFS energy management conservation regulations.
- Assist with departmental operations to maintain workflow.
- High school diploma or equivalent and a recognized apprenticeship training program plus 2 years of experience.
- Or military or civilian vocational training plus 2 years of experience.
- Or 5 years of direct work‑related skills, knowledge, and experience.
- Experience with MAXIMO.
- Read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, procedure manuals, schematics and blueprints.
- Interpret National Electrical Code requirements.
- Perform Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Work safely on both energized and de‑energized equipment.
- Apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form.
- General office routine knowledge including scheduling and standard computer software.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and related applications.
- Explain technical information to technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Write routine reports and correspondence.
- Interact courteously and professionally with customers and coworkers.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must obtain and maintain required clearances, badges, area permits and certifications.
- Must communicate in English, both verbal and written.
- Must pass applicable medical certification.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
