Installation Technician
At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!
This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.
The Installation Technician in our Factory Automation Group will be responsible for the hands-on assembly, integration, and on-site installation of custom robotic cells and automated machinery designed and developed by the Factory Automation team at Blue Origin. This role applies mechanical and electrical craftsmanship, attention to detail, and dedication to our mission and vision to bring engineering designs to life on the factory floor.
Responsibilities include mechanical and electrical assembly of robotic cells and special machines, executing installations per engineering documentation, supporting commissioning activities, and collaborating closely with controls and mechanical engineers to ensure seamless system deployment. This role requires a highly capable, hands-on individual with experience in industrial equipment assembly and installation in a fast-paced custom automation environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and install robotic cells, automated machinery, and custom tooling/fixtures per engineering drawings, schematics, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Perform mechanical assembly tasks including structural framing, machine guarding, conveyor systems, pneumatic plumbing, and precision mechanical alignment.
- Execute electrical wiring, panel installation, and cable management in accordance with electrical schematics and applicable safety standards (NFPA 79, NEC).
- Interpret and work from engineering documentation including assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, BOMs, and written work instructions.
- Support controls engineers during commissioning and functional testing of newly installed systems.
- Identify and communicate discrepancies between engineering drawings and physical builds; contribute to as-built documentation updates.
- Perform on-site installations at Blue Origin facilities and customer sites, including equipment rigging, precision leveling, and structural anchoring.
- Coordinate with facilities teams regarding utilities, floor penetrations, and infrastructure requirements ahead of and during installations.
- Maintain a safe and organized work environment; adhere strictly to all safety standards and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Support troubleshooting and resolution of mechanical and electrical issues encountered during installation and commissioning phases.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) activities.
- Document installation progress, open items, and completion status using project management and internal tracking systems.
- Provide actionable feedback to engineering teams on design improvements related to manufacturability and installability.
- Travel to other Blue Origin sites as required to support system installations and startups.
