Location: Tiverton, RI
Schedule: Full‑Time
Pay Rate: $16.50 – $20.00 per hour
Employment Type: Full‑Time
Work Setting: On‑Site
OverviewSakonnet Early Learning Center is seeking a caring and motivated Preschool Assistant Teacher to support our Pre‑K (ages 4–5) classroom. For over 40 years, we have proudly served the Tiverton community by providing high‑quality early childhood education focused on play‑based learning, school readiness, and social‑emotional growth. This is an excellent opportunity for early childhood professionals looking for a supportive, growth‑oriented environment where collaboration and child‑centered learning are at the core of everything we do.
Responsibilities- Assist the Lead Teacher with daily instruction and classroom activities
- Support literacy, math, science, STEM/STEAM, art, sensory play, and hands‑on exploration
- Help implement Creative Curriculum lesson plans and thematic units
- Set up and maintain classroom learning centers and materials
- Promote positive behavior, social‑emotional development, and cooperative play
- Observe children’s developmental progress and assist with documentation
- Communicate with families using digital parent engagement platforms (training provided)
- Maintain a safe, organized classroom in compliance with RIDHS child care licensing standards
- Supervise children indoors and outdoors while maintaining required ratios
- Provide classroom coverage and float between rooms as needed
Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development
- High school diploma or GED required
- CDA, RIELDS coursework, or early childhood education training preferred
- Experience working with preschool‑age children in a child care center, preschool, camp, or similar setting
- Strong teamwork, communication, and classroom support skills
- Patient, dependable, and enthusiastic about play‑based and child‑centered learning
- Comfort using digital parent communication platforms is a plus
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
