- Provides visionary instructional leadership to ensure high levels of student achievement and continuous school improvement aligned with district goals and the Strategic Plan.
- Establishes and maintains a positive, inclusive, safe, and supportive school climate that promotes student well-being, belonging, and academic success.
- Leads the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices to improve student outcomes.
- Uses multiple sources of student performance, attendance, behavioral, and climate data to inform decision‑making and drive continuous improvement.
- Supervises and evaluates certified and non‑certified staff in accordance with district procedures, collective bargaining agreements, and state regulations.
- Recruits, develops, mentors, and supports staff through professional learning, coaching, and performance feedback.
- Oversees the implementation of Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), including academic, behavioral, social‑emotional, and intervention services.
- Serves as the building‑level coordinator for Section 504 plans and ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
- Collaborates with special education personnel to ensure implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), accommodations, and student support services.
- Plans, organizes, and supervises all school operations, programs, activities, and events.
- Develops and maintains effective communication and partnerships with students, families, staff, community organizations, and other stakeholders.
- Promotes meaningful family engagement and responsive communication to support student success.
- Oversees student attendance initiatives and ensures the maintenance of accurate student records in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements.
- Coordinates and supervises building support services, including transportation, food services, health services, library/media services, facilities, custodial operations, and school safety functions.
- Leads emergency preparedness planning, school safety initiatives, crisis response, and reunification procedures.
- Manages building resources and budgets responsibly to support instructional priorities and operational needs.
- Ensures compliance with School Committee policies, administrative procedures, collective bargaining agreements, and all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Facilitates shared decision‑making and fosters a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Represents the school and district in community, professional, and inter‑agency partnerships as appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
To provide effective instructional and operational leadership for the school, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that promotes academic excellence, social‑emotional growth, and the success of every student. The principal will support continuous improvement through data‑informed decision‑making, evidence‑based practices, collaborative leadership, and implementation of the Tiverton School Department Strategic Plan.
EvaluationPerformance shall be evaluated annually by the Superintendent using the district‑approved administrative evaluation system and in accordance with Rhode Island Department of Education standards and district expectations.
Qualifications / Certifications / Licenses- Master's degree or higher in Educational Leadership, Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Rhode Island Building Administrator certification (PK‑12) or eligibility for certification.
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful educational leadership experience.
