Tiverton Public Schools is seeking dedicated and student-centered Teacher Assistants to support students and staff at Tiverton High School. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with teachers, related service providers, and administrators to support students' academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and functional needs within the general education and special education settings.

• Provide instructional support to students individually and in small groups under the direction of certified staff.
• Assist students in accessing curriculum, completing assignments, and developing organizational skills.
• Support the implementation of IEP accommodations, modifications, behavior support plans, and other individualized programming.
• Facilitate student participation in classroom activities, school events, and community-based learning opportunities as appropriate.
• Assist with data collection and progress monitoring.
• Support students with social-emotional regulation, communication, and independent living skills as needed.
• Collaborate effectively with teachers, special educators, related service providers, and administrators.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student information in accordance with FERPA and district policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.

• QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Have a high school diploma
  • Completion of a Teacher Assistant Pre-Employment Training Program approved by the RI Department of Education (RIDE). Two (2) exceptions to this particular qualification:
    • a. Those with certification as a TA in another state
    • b. Those with an associate degree or bachelor's degree AND who have completed coursework or other training consistent with the teacher assistant program standards
  • Meet one (1) of the following requirements:
    • a. Successfully passed the Para Pro Assessment. OR
    • b. Complete at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education OR
    • c. Obtain an associate or higher degree.
• At least 2 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
• High School/Trade School degree preferred.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

Tiverton is located in the southeastern part of Rhode island. It is approximately 25 miles from Providence and 50 miles from Boston. It extends 12 miles from the Fall River, Massachusetts line on the north to Little Compton, RI, on the south and five miles from Sakonnet River on the west to the Westport, MA line on the east. It encompasses in an area of approximately 30 square miles.

It is a suburban community of approximately 16,000 people. The majority of adults are employed in the cities of Newport, Fall River and Providence. These major cities are within short commuting distances and provide many cultural opportunities for the townspeople. The public school enrollment consists of 2,116 pupils housed in three elementary school, one middle school, and one high school.

Tiverton High is a four-year comprehensive, public high school with an enrollment of 711 students. The class of 2005 graduated 177 students; the class of 2006 graduated 159 students; and the class of 2007 graduated 155 students.
