The Middle School Chorus Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and assessing a comprehensive choral music program that fosters students' musical growth, creativity, and appreciation for vocal performance. The teacher will create an engaging classroom environment that promotes vocal technique, music literacy, performance skills, and collaboration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and implement a standards-based choral curriculum aligned with state and district music standards.
Teach vocal technique, sight-reading, music theory, and performance skills to middle school students.
Plan and conduct rehearsals for concerts, performances, and school/community events.
Organize and direct multiple ensembles (e.g., beginning chorus, advanced chorus, honor chorus).
Prepare students for district, regional, or state-level choral assessments and festivals.
Select age-appropriate and culturally diverse repertoire.
Assess student progress and provide timely feedback to students and parents.
Maintain classroom management that promotes a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Collaborate with other fine arts teachers and school staff to support school-wide initiatives.
Manage music inventory, equipment, uniforms, and budget.
Communicate effectively with families regarding performances, expectations, and student progress.
Participate in faculty meetings, professional learning, and school events as required.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Music Education or related field (Master's preferred).
Valid Georgia teaching certification in Music.
Strong knowledge of vocal pedagogy and choral literature.
Experience teaching middle school students preferred.
Ability to accompany rehearsals on piano preferred.
Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to build students' confidence and enthusiasm for choral performance.
Knowledge of adolescent vocal development.
Proficiency in music technology and digital learning platforms.
Ability to organize performances and coordinate event logistics.
