Manufacturing Engineer, Quality Engineering, Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma
Our client is a manufacturer specializing in high-quality thick sheet HDPE extrusion. With a significant manufacturing footprint and a close-knit team, the company has grown substantially and continues to expand.
The company operates multiple thick sheet extrusion machines. This is a company where your work is seen, your contributions matter, and there is real room to grow.
The OpportunityOur client is looking for a motivated, hands‑on entry‑level engineer with a plastics engineering education or background who is eager to learn the extrusion process from the ground up. This is not a role that requires years of experience; it is a role designed to develop the right person over time.
You will be mentored by experienced team members who know the process well. Your job in the early stages is to absorb, ask questions, support the team, and start building your technical foundation in a real manufacturing environment. Over time, you will take on greater ownership of process improvement, documentation, and quality initiatives.
If you have a degree in plastics, polymer, mechanical, chemical, or industrial engineering and you want hands‑on manufacturing experience with a stable, growing company, this role was built for you.
What You’ll Be DoingEarly in the role, you will be learning and supporting. Over time, responsibilities will grow to include:
- Spending time on the production floor learning about the extrusion process alongside their technical experts and operations leadership.
- Observing and documenting current processes, identifying areas where consistency can be improved
- Assisting in the development and updating of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions
- Supporting quality checks and in‑process inspections to help maintain product consistency
- Learning to monitor key process parameters, including temperatures, pressures, line speeds, and output rates
- Participating in troubleshooting conversations when process or product issues arise
- Supporting Lean and continuous improvement initiatives as your understanding of the operation grows
- Working alongside the maintenance team to understand preventive maintenance schedules and equipment upkeep
- Helping track and report on production metrics and KPIs over time
- Building relationships with four shift supervisors and their technician teams, who will be your day‑to‑day partners
Required:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Plastics Engineering, Polymer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Genuine interest in manufacturing and hands‑on process work is a hands‑on position
- Curiosity and a willingness to learn
- Strong communication skills — you'll be working with production teams, supervisors, and management daily
- Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently once you find your footing
- Any prior internship, co‑op, or coursework exposure to plastics extrusion or polymer processing
- Basic understanding or willingness to learn quality concepts such as SPC, control plans, or inspection methods
- Familiarity with Six Sigma, Lean manufacturing, or continuous improvement concepts and ability to further education in related subjects.
- Any hands‑on manufacturing or lab experience would be welcomed.
- You’ll be supported - experienced management, supervisors, and technicians will mentor you and want to see you succeed
- Real ownership - as you grow, so does your role; there is a clear path to taking on more responsibility
- Positive culture - the people here are valued, and it shows in tenure and team morale
- Modern equipment and a facility that is well‑maintained and organized
- Direct exposure to the full extrusion process - sheet, pelletizing, regrind - from day one
