Job Summary
Coordinate and maintain proper function of patient care. Primarily responsible for utilizing the nursing process in providing the healthcare needs of assigned patients within existing standards of care. Additional responsibilities include assisting physicians with assessment and care of patients, gathering and recording data into the medical record, and assisting with lab clinic and office procedures directly related to patient care and front‑office duties as required for an overall efficient operation.
Assist with medication refills and triage walk‑in patients, directing them to schedule follow‑up appointments, proceed to the emergency department, or activate EMS as appropriate.

Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrates knowledge appropriate to care for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient populations specific to unit of practice.
- Meets all certification requirements defined by unit (i.e., BLS, ACLS, PALS).
- Demonstrates critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrates sound clinical skills and judgment.
- Basic computer skills necessary to operate computer systems used on unit.
- Maintain proper function of patient care; assist physicians with assessment and care of patients; prepare examination rooms and patients for office visits; record weight, vital signs, bilateral BP measurements, and medications; perform electrocardiograms; observe symptoms of acutely ill patients and alert PA and/or physician.
- Gather and record accurate data into GEMMS system; abstract medical information into EMR; create clinical resumes; update and verify information in electronic medical record; perform, verify and complete orders in ECIS; check message box and follow up on test results; document changes in lab procedures; transmit data to and from Lab Corp, Quest and NGMC.
- Follow physician orders; educate patients and assist with completion of consent forms for procedures; educate and apply event monitors and Holter monitors; perform ABI, venipuncture, and order appropriate lab work; assist with scheduling of tests/procedures; ensure patients are called with test results promptly; review office note to ensure all previous physician orders have been completed.
- Assist lab clinic as needed: perform venipuncture, prepare blood samples, retrieve lab results, review results with physician, ensure patient notification; follow through on physician orders of results; fill out appropriate lab flow sheets; pull results from different labs; phone and fax verbal orders; compile documentation of pro‑times; input charges; maintain temperature log; maintain event monitor supply; transport stat labs to hospital.
- Assist in Anti‑Coagulation clinic: educate patients, maintain education booklets, perform finger‑sticks for coagulants, perform venipuncture if needed for stat INR; record and review results; regulate results according to physician guidelines; assist with voicemail, calling back patients, and maintaining clinic schedule.
- Assist with ordering and stocking of supplies; comply with NGMC policies and protocols; prepare for physician review in a timely manner; manage prescription requests through Notify MD.
- Front‑office duties as assigned; ordering of supplies; submitting packing slips; reviewing cost‑saving ideas and efficient supply use; comply with OSHA regulations.
