- Coordinate and maintain proper function of patient care.
- Utilize the nursing process in providing the healthcare needs of assigned patients within existing standards of care.
- Assist physician with assessment and care of patients, gather and record data into the medical record, assist with lab clinic and office procedures related to patient care and front office duties as required for an efficient operation.
- Assess need and assist with refills of medications.
- Assess patients calling and presenting as "walk-ins" to the office and triage accordingly; direct them to schedule follow-up appointments, problem visits, or to the emergency department or EMS as appropriate.
- Assist with scheduling and other front office duties as assigned; ensure proper documentation and confidentiality of records.
- Perform electrocardiograms and monitor acutely ill patients requiring emergency or immediate care, alerting the PA and/or physician as needed.
- Assist with gathering of medical records and ensure confidentiality of records.
- Assist with stocking and maintenance of drug samples and supplies; assist with ordering and stocking of supplies.
- Perform sanitation duties and maintain appropriate records (e.g., temperature logs, lab workflows).
- Enter and manage clinical data in GEMMS and EMR systems; input medications, problem lists, medical history, and ensure complete orders and test results follow-up.
- Transmit data to and from Lab Corp, Quest and NGMC; ensure labs are sent to the appropriate laboratory depending on insurance.
- Educate patients and assist with completion of consent forms for procedures; educate on event and Holter monitor use.
- Perform ABI, venipuncture, and order appropriate lab work; assist with scheduling of tests and procedures; ensure timely communication of test results to patients.
- Prepare patient EMR prior to physician encounters; review office notes to ensure completion of physician orders.
- Assist with lab clinic activities: venipuncture, lab work orders, sample preparation, result review with physician, and notifying patients of results.
- Monitor and manage anti-coagulation clinic activities: patient education, finger sticks for coagulation testing, venipuncture as needed, document results, and ensure physician sign-off on orders.
- Call or message patients with physician orders and medication refills as authorized; manage Notify MD communications and prescription requests.
- Front office duties as assigned; order supplies and monitor cost-saving opportunities and efficient use of supplies.
- Licensure or certifications: Professional Nurse with current GA State License; current ACLS and CPR.
- Educational Requirements: Associate Degree (minimum).
- Experience: Three (3) to five (5) years in cardiology (preferred).
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrates knowledge appropriate to care for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients; meets all unit certification requirements (e.g., BLS, ACLS, PALS); demonstrates critical thinking and sound clinical skills and judgment; basic computer skills for unit systems.
- Maintain proper function of patient care and assist physician with assessment and care of patients.
- Prepare examination rooms and patients for office visits; record weight, vital signs, blood pressure, and medications; perform electrocardiograms.
- Observe symptoms of acutely ill patients and escalate care as needed; manage patient data in EMR, and ensure confidentiality.
- Assist with specimen handling, lab orders, and entry of data into EMR/ECIS; ensure alignment with physician orders and results follow-up.
- Coordinate lab-related activities, including communication with laboratories and transport of stat or urgent samples to hospital.
- Support anti-coagulation clinic operations, including patient education, monitoring, and documentation; assist with home monitoring where applicable.
- Complete back-office and front-office duties as assigned; manage stock, supplies, and drug samples; ensure OSHA and policy compliance.
