SUMMARY

The Senior Property Accountant is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting for one or more key functional areas, which may include fixed assets, construction and development, property operating expenses (prepaid or accrued), and/or expense recoveries. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate financial records in accordance with U.S. GAAP, SOX requirements, and company policies, while also contributing to process improvements, cross‑functional collaboration, and team support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform and oversee accounting and financial reporting activities related to assigned areas such as fixed assets, construction and development costs, property operating expenses, and recovery of shared costs.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain accurate journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting work papers in accordance with GAAP and internal policies.
  • Analyze monthly variances and trends in operating expense accounts and provide insights to management.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal controls, supporting all SOX documentation and control testing processes.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial statements, including supporting schedules for external and internal reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams such as Asset Management, Development, and FP&A to ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial activity.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements and automation opportunities to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls within property accounting functions.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests by providing complete and accurate documentation and analysis.
  • Act as a resource and mentor to junior team members, offering guidance, training, and support across functional areas.
  • Support key initiatives and special projects, including system implementations, policy updates, and workflow enhancements.
  • Maintain and update accounting procedures and documentation to reflect current practices and evolving business needs.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to customer service by responding to inquiries from internal stakeholders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis, reporting, or duties as required by leadership.

TRAVEL

Some out of area and overnight travel may be expected.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience:

    Minimum of three (3) years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate or property accounting.
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
