Purpose of JobThe Senior Corporate Accountant leads a broad range of accounting activities for the Corporate Accounting team, including execution of the financial close cycle and support for complex accounting areas such as derivatives, capital market transactions, foreign currency, and strategic transactions. This role helps ensure accurate and timely accounting, strong internal controls, and meaningful financial analysis for Corporate accounting activities.
This role partners directly with leaders across the organization, including senior management, Treasury, Tax, Legal, Sourcing, Corporate Strategy & Financial Planning, Corporate function leaders, centers of excellence, external auditors, and third-party service providers. The role provides technical accounting analysis, supports SEC reporting disclosures, contributes to governance committee activities, and drives process improvement across treasury and corporate accounting processes.
Job Responsibilities Corporate Accounting & Financial Close- Execute an effective monthly, quarterly, and annual close process for Corporate areas including treasury activities for the Doors business.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analyses while maintaining a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
- Assist with complex accounting activities such as debt, derivatives, capital market transactions, foreign currency and other significant accounting transactions.
- Prepare quarterly balance sheet reviews for key areas such as Debt and Derivatives.
- Resolve close-related issues and assist with cash clearing and cash reconciliation processes.
- Consult with Treasury, Tax, Sourcing, and the Corporate Accounting Leader on significant technical accounting matters, providing recommendations and alternative views on accounting treatment and related issues.
- Prepare technical accounting memos to document research, conclusions, and accounting treatment for complex transactions.
- Utilize internal and external software to perform derivative valuations, confirm valuations with counter parties, and prepare variance analysis.
- Support Sourcing sustainability initiatives related to renewable energy credits, including technical accounting analysis, contract review, and accounting treatment assessment.
- Represent the accounting function as a key contributor to the Structured Transactions Governance Committee by providing accounting guidance and blueprinting on proposed transactions.
- Support the external reporting process by compiling supporting documentation for specialized footnotes, including derivatives, debt, and fair value disclosures, to help ensure completeness, accuracy, and fairness of disclosures.
- Develop strong working relationships with stakeholders across Global Finance Operations and Reporting, Treasury, Tax, Legal, Sourcing, Corporate Strategy & Financial Planning, Corporate functions, and external auditors.
- Share information fully and timely and strive to be viewed as a strategic business partner.
- Consult with business segment accounting groups and Corporate functions on significant technical accounting matters.
- Lead a team of two accountants, providing day-to-day guidance, coaching, and support across key Corporate accounting activities.
- Create an accountable and collaborative team environment that encourages open communication, continuous learning, and ownership of key close and control responsibilities.
- Review work performed by team members, provide timely feedback, and support development of technical accounting, analytical, and business partnering capabilities.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen team processes, improve efficiency, and support growth opportunities for team members.
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies, US GAAP and governance requirements.
- Support the external reporting team to ensure compliance with SEC requirements.
- Demonstrate leadership in maintaining a strong safety culture and adherence to company safety standards.
- Promote accountability for safe and ethical work practices across the team.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience with multinational organizations or Big 4 public accounting firms.
- 5-7 years of accounting, financial reporting, or corporate accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, global accounting processes, and internal controls.
- Experience using large ERP systems, reporting tools, and other forms of technology.
- Demonstrated technical accounting research skills and experience evaluating accounting treatment for complex transactions.
