* General knowledge of all phases of the Recorder's Office, with the ability to explain the operation to the public;
* Answer phone calls and assist customers with questions;
* Assist office staff with general clerical duties, filing, and records management. Learn office procedures and contribute to office update initiative.
* Help prepare communications, including newsletters and promotional materials. Interns may attend public appearances.
* Shadow employees and assist with document recording, imaging, indexing, verifying public records, and information technology tasks.
* Instruct and assist customers in the use of services provided by the office of the Lucas County Recorder and retrieve documents upon request;
* Certifying copies of recorded documents requested;
* Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE
Computer operations (e.g., Microsoft Office, Group Wise, and other related software); CSE Typing and word processing, 60 words per minute.

* Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers;

WORK CONDITIONS
* Work in an environment where interruptions occur;
* May be required to work overtime;
* May be required to lift books up to 25 lbs.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
* Understanding the role of public record jurisdictions and the legal requirements for managing documents.
* Gaining familiarity with record types such as deeds, mortgages, liens, releases.
* Developing communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills applicable to administrative roles.
* Exposure to local government operations and community services, including how records management supports transparency and accountability.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Current undergraduate or graduate student in Political Science, Education, Public Administration, or a related field with an interest in government, public service, community engagement, or policy development.
