The City of Adrian is accepting applications for the position of Chief Building Official. Reporting to the City Administrator, the Chief Building Official is responsible for the efficient operation of City’s Building Department; and day-to-day supervision of departmental personnel, including code enforcement, inspection, planning/zoning, and administrative functions.
Responsibilities include oversight of building permitting and inspections, plan review, the City's rental inspection program, code and ordinance enforcement; and electrical, mechanical, and plumbing inspection services. The Chief Building Official performs residential and commercial building inspections and building plan reviews and is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable state construction codes and City ordinances.
Registration with the State of Michigan as a Building Official, Building Inspector, and Building Plan Reviewer is required. Candidates must possess considerable knowledge of applicable construction codes, building inspection and plan review practices, municipal ordinances, and building construction methods and materials.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred: equivalent combination of education, specialized training, and experience in building construction, code administration, inspection, plan review, or a related trade may be considered. Previous supervisory, management, or administrative experience is required. The successful candidate must possess strong leadership, organizational, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. A valid Michigan driver's license is required.
