Position Title:
Applicant Pool for Tutors, Information Systems Technology. This position will work one‑on‑one or in small groups with undergraduate students at the Toledo and Findlay campuses. Tutors will support students’ success by creating an optimum learning environment and guiding them to a greater understanding of course materials.
- Help students understand and apply underlying principles and develop critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills.
- Prepare for tutoring by familiarizing yourself with course textbooks, software, and teaching tools.
- Document tutoring sessions accurately and thoroughly to meet reporting requirements.
- Associate degree in computer science or two‑year technical certificate;
Bachelor’s degree preferred (computer science, system administration, computer programming, information systems, databases, network administration, web design, or related field). - Knowledge of student‑centered tutoring strategies and the tutoring discipline.
- Experience tutoring and/or teaching at the college level desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and computer skills. Knowledge of web design, programming languages, software, and hardware is a plus.
- Ability to multi‑task, collaborate, and work independently.
- Capacity to analyze students’ needs and explain material in varied ways to build confidence and comprehension.
- Must be able to work with students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
- CISCO, CompTIA, Oracle, or Microsoft certifications are a plus.
- Energetic, positive, creative team player.
- Ability to generate new ideas to better serve students.
- Sensitive to the needs of at‑risk students and maintains confidentiality of personal student and program information.
- Hourly pay; schedule and duty days vary by semester.
- Retirement system: STRS.
