Applicant Pool for Adjunct Faculty, Teacher Education

Primary responsibility: teach undergraduate teacher education students.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Classroom and/or online instruction in the discipline.
  • Knowledgeable in the discipline and provide high quality instruction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and integration of appropriate practices for teaching different learning styles.
  • Strong skills in written and oral communication, problem‑solving, critical thinking, interpersonal relations, and computer use (Microsoft Office Suite, Blackboard and Owens email).
  • Ability to integrate diverse methodologies, understand community college student needs, manage a classroom, follow instructions and meet deadlines, recognize student strengths and weaknesses, evaluate student work fairly, and meet department guidelines.
Essential Functions

TEACHES CLASSES
  • Develops a syllabus using the assigned syllabus shell, including evaluations and a calendar of assignments.
  • Prepares lesson plans and conducts classes during scheduled times using department‑approved text(s).
  • Follows department guidelines for course content and best practices.
  • Meets all scheduled classes and maintains full allotted time.
  • Respects Owens Community College standards for web instruction if teaching online.
  • Uses appropriate classroom management techniques and technology.
  • CREATES AND MAINTAINS ASSIGNMENTS, EVALUATIVE MEASURES, AND RECORDS
  • Creates and evaluates assignments, evaluative measures, and activities appropriate to the class.
  • Assigns grades to student work.
  • Returns graded assignments and activity records to students in a timely manner, generally within a week.
  • Maintains accurate attendance records.
  • Reports attendance as required by published deadlines.
  • Maintains an accurate electronic grade book.
  • Submits electronic copies of grade book and attendance to the department course management site and records office by the deadline.
  • Administers course evaluations as instructed by the college.
  • COMMUNICATES EFFECTIVELY
  • Uses the college’s course management system for assigned courses and department matters.
  • Uses Microsoft Office Suite and other required Owens‑system‑compatible programs.
  • Submits electronic copies of all required documents (syllabi, grade books, attendance records, etc.) to the department course management site.
  • Accesses Owens email at least every other day to communicate with students and department chair, replies within 48 hours.
  • Checks campus mailbox at least once a week and responds to student inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Is available to meet with students outside of class if necessary.
  • ENGAGES IN OTHER DEPARTMENT‑RELATED ACTIVITIES
  • Attends department and college workshops, training sessions, and development activities as needed.
  • Attends department and college meetings as necessary.
  • Participates in student learning assessment activities.
  • Performs other departmental duties as assigned.

    Minimum Education /Experience
