Job Description:
This position requires teaching undergraduates, and applicants must provide evidence of teaching potential. Teaching faculty at Owens Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field.
The position teaches college-level & pre-college level Science Composition courses and science-related courses. Applicants should understand process-based writing, have familiarity with adult learning theory and current pedagogical strategies that enhance critical thinking.
Responsibilities- Engages in other department-related activities: attends department and college workshops, training sessions, development activities; attends meetings; participates in student learning assessment activities; performs other departmental duties as assigned.
- Daily teaches classes: develops a syllabus, prepares lesson plans, follows department guidelines, meets all scheduled dates, uses appropriate classroom management techniques, incorporates technology, follows Owens Community College Standards for Web Instruction if online.
- Daily creates and maintains assignments, evaluative measures, and records: creates and evaluates assignments; assigns grades; returns graded work in a timely manner; maintains attendance records; submits grade book and attendance to records office; administers course evaluations.
- Weekly communicates effectively: uses the college’s course management system, MS Office Suite, submits electronic copies of required documents, accesses email at least once a day, replies to messages within 48 hours, responds to student inquiries outside class, available for additional meetings.
- Daily supports mission, vision, and core values: exhibits core values of Service, Learning, Innovation, Collaboration, Excellence; supports college and school of STEM mission and vision; displays professional and collegial behavior.
- Other characteristics: works cooperatively with faculty, maintains a positive demeanor, strong commitment to professional growth and development.
- A Master's degree.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles of Physics from basic to Calculus-based courses.
- Proficiency in instructional and course management software.
- Strong communication skills in both small and large groups.
- Ability to design and grade tests.
- Ability to create effective instructional materials.
- Familiarity with adult learning theory and current pedagogical strategies.
Master's degree in Physics or related field. Union position. FLSA status:
Exempt.
