Job OverviewInstruct various courses in the OPOTA Basic Police Academy curriculum. This position requires classroom or online instruction in the discipline, including preparing syllabi and lesson plans, assessing and evaluating student performance, keeping accurate records and reporting information as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Knowledge of specific topic to be taught in the academy.
- Possess specific knowledge and skills in specific areas in which they will instruct (ie. firearms, driving, subject control, ADAP, etc).
- Must maintain any updates required by OPOTA.
- Provide students with unit student performance objectives and any skilled performance objectives as required by OPOTA.
- Must be proficient with skills in specific areas of the OPOTA curriculum in which they will instruct (ie. firearms, driving, subject control, ADAP, etc).
- Must be able to present effective verbal instruction and demonstrate to students in the skilled student performance objectives.
- Must show and maintain competence in the specific OPOTA topic(s) in which they will instruct.
- Be able to recognize and assist students with any weaknesses during OPOTA topic instruction.
- Will be able to assist with student worksheets in the specific OPOTA topic(s) in which they will instruct.
- Possess specific knowledge and skills in specific areas in which they will instruct (ie. firearms, driving, subject control, ADAP, etc).
- Must maintain any updates required by OPOTA.
- Provide students with unit student performance objectives and any skilled performance objectives as required by OPOTA.
- Communicates with Program Coordinator, Academy Commander, and other academy faculty regarding student performance.
- Must demonstrate professionalism and commitment to the program and students.
- Must be able to demonstrate leadership and still remain sensitive to the needs of the student.
- Be able to serve as a mentor or role model.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
- 5 years minimum experience as a full time law enforcement officer.
