Description
This position involves providing specialized academic instruction to students with autism in a self-contained classroom setting, with a maximum student-to-teacher ratio of 1:6. Additionally, a full-time paraprofessional will support you in meeting the diverse needs of our students.
Requirements
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs and abilities of each student in the classroom.
- Provide direct instruction in academic subjects, including but not limited to reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies.
- Utilize evidence-based teaching strategies and instructional materials appropriate for students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
- Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters social-emotional growth, communication skills, and independence.
- Collaborate with related service providers, such as speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and behavior specialists, to address students' diverse needs.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly to ensure continuous growth and development.
- Establish and maintain regular communication with parents/guardians to provide updates on student progress and collaborate on individualized interventions.
- Provide guidance and support to the full-time paraprofessional to facilitate effective classroom management and implementation of instructional activities.
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field.
- Valid teaching certification in Special Education.
- Proven experience working with students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in a special education setting.
- Strong knowledge of evidence-based practices and instructional strategies for teaching students with autism.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with individuals with special needs.
- Ability to adapt instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Previous experience supervising or collaborating with paraprofessionals preferred.
