Adjunct Faculty, Physical Science (Lecture)
This position requires teaching undergraduates, and applicants must provide evidence of teaching potential. Teaching faculty at Owens Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field.
This position teaches college-level & pre-college level Science Composition courses and Science related courses. Understanding of process based writing. Familiarity with adult learning theory. Familiarity with current pedagogical strategies that will enhance critical thinking with students. Ability to work with a diverse student population. Effectively communicate with students on a regular basis. Provide students with regular feedback on progress. Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
Ability to enhance instruction with use of technology. Effective classroom management. Enthusiasm for teaching and learning.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- A thorough knowledge of the principles of Physical Sciences to an extent where the successful candidate would be comfortable in teaching courses from basic Physical Sciences to College level Physical Sciences.
- Knowledge of student-centered, tutoring strategies. Knowledge of Microsoft software.
- Familiarity with appropriate instructional and course management software.
- Verbal and written interpersonal communications skills. Computer skills including Microsoft software.
- The ability to communicate effectively with both small and large groups. Proficiency in designing and grading tests. Ability to create effective instructional materials.
- The candidate will need to multi-task, collaborate with others and work independently.

- The candidate should be energetic, positive, creative, a multi-tasking team member who is able to generate new ideas to better serve students. The candidate will also need to be sensitive to the needs of at-risk students.
Minimum Education /
Experience:
- Master's degree
- Physical Sciences Preference will be given to minors in Biology, Physics, Physical Sciences or Chemistry.
