Position Summary
Lab instructor to oversee students in the lab setting and assist and evaluate the student’s technical skills. The instructor must be knowledgeable in the course material and have taken continuing education courses on the subject. Must provide high quality instruction and demonstrate knowledge of and integration of appropriate skills and practices/theories of teaching to different learning styles. Able to demonstrate skills and activities that will facilitate student learning, and monitor student behavior and performance.
Knowledge,Skills & Abilities
- Use Microsoft Office Suite and/or other required programs.
- Use of Blackboard.
- Use of Owens email.
- Dexterity for dental instrumentation.
- Good sight or use of magnification loupes.
- Good verbal speaking skills.
- Understand the needs of community college students.
- Good organizational skills.
- Provide positive feedback to students.
- Display professional behavior toward all students, colleagues, supervisors, and the entire college community at all times.
- Follow the course syllabus using the appropriate grading criteria listed within the syllabus.
- Follow the calendar of assignments in accordance with the syllabus and course outline.
- Conduct class during the scheduled times using the department approved text.
- Follow the department guidelines for course content and best practices.
- Meet classes on all scheduled dates during the assigned semester.
- Meet classes on time and hold classes for their fully allotted time.
- Use appropriate classroom management techniques.
- Use appropriate means of technology.
- Grade assignments, skill evaluations and tests appropriate to the class.
- Assist lead instructor in accurate and thorough records of grades and student attendance.
- Use the Blackboard course management system.
- Use Office Suite and/or other required programs.
- Submit all requested documents/training to the department Blackboard site.
- Check Owens email within 48 hours.
- Respond to student inquiries outside of class time in a timely manner.
- Attend department and college workshop, training session, and development opportunities as needed.
- Attend department and college meetings as necessary.
- Participate in student learning assessment activities.
- Attend annual teaching methodologies courses as required by Accreditation standards.
- Other departmental duties as assigned.
- Maintain professional license or certification.
- Take annual continuing education as required for license or certification.
- Maintain CPR credentials.
- Maintain membership in professional organization.

- Practice patience and flexibility.
High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.). 2 years experience as a dental assistant or dental hygienist.
