🌿 Pre-K Educator | Kindergarten Readiness

Location: Sylvania Children's Center – Toledo, Ohio
Schedule: Full-Time
Program: NAEYC Accredited | Step Up To Quality Gold Rated

About Sylvania Children's Center

Sylvania Children's Center is entering its 35th year this fall as a NAEYC Accredited, Step Up To Quality Gold Rated program. Quality is the most important thing we do — it creates meaningful outcomes for children, positive experiences for families, and real opportunities for growth on our team. We have a big vision for the next 10 years, and the scale we want to achieve starts and ends with having the best educators in our program.

Who Thrives Here

The educators who thrive at SCC are passionate about early childhood — not because it's a job title, but because they genuinely believe these years shape everything that follows.

They plan with intention — observing children's interests and designing experiences driven by them across every developmental domain. They scaffold as each child grows and pivot when the moment calls for it. They build real, daily partnerships with families — genuine two-way communication that earns trust and invites families into the learning.

They embody NAEYC's standards — creating environments that reflect each child's identity and family, upholding the Code of Ethical Conduct, and tying their growth to our Standards of Excellence:
Strong Contributor, Difference Maker, and Above & Beyond.

If that's the educator you are — we want to hear from you.

The Role

The Pre-K Educator has one mission: prepare children for Kindergarten. That means intentional instruction in literacy, numeracy, executive function, and the social-emotional skills children need in a structured school setting — all planned around children's interests and scaffolded toward clear, measurable benchmarks. You will communicate that progress meaningfully to families every step of the way.

Responsibilities
  • Plan a Pre-K curriculum driven by children's interests, aligned with Ohio Early Learning Standards and K-readiness benchmarks
  • Deliver intentional instruction in early literacy (phonological awareness, letter recognition, early writing) and numeracy (counting, number sense, math reasoning)
  • Scaffold learning as each child's skills develop; build executive function: self-regulation, attention, and following multi-step directions
  • Develop social-emotional readiness: cooperation, independence, conflict resolution, and classroom routines
  • Conduct developmental assessments (ASQ & TSG) and track Kindergarten readiness progress
  • Build genuine two-way partnerships with families — communicating milestones, readiness progress, and how to extend learning at home
  • Submit lesson plans by Friday 5:00 PM; maintain attendance and portfolio records
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development (min. 20 hours/year)
What We Require
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or a related field — required
  • Must meet Ohio licensing requirements for the preschool age group
  • Knowledge of Pre-K frameworks, Ohio Early Learning Standards, K-readiness benchmarks, and NAEYC standards
  • 1+ year implementing structured curriculum in an early childhood or school setting preferred
  • A coachable, outcomes-oriented mindset and the professionalism your team and families can rely on
What We Offer
  • Competitive pay based on experience and credentials
  • Structured onboarding program and Mentor Educator Program
  • Standards of Excellence performance framework — you always know where you stand and what advancement looks like
  • 14 paid holidays, 8 days PTO, and a Monthly Health and Wellness Stipend
  • Paid weekly planning time and professional development
  • A culture that recognizes and rewards excellence
  • Real opportunities for growth, advancement, and promotion
