Manager, Veteran Services
Job Description:The Manager facilitates matriculation of all Student Veterans, spouses and dependents of Veterans attending OCC. Will assist veteran and active duty military students, and their dependents in coordinating veterans' education benefits. The Manager will assist students by monitoring and evaluating their progress toward reaching their educational goals in accordance with OCC regulations and will follow Department of Veterans Affairs policies and procedures.
The Manager counsels student veterans and helps them develop educational plans in relation to their receipt of education benefits from the government. Manager will maintain communication with all student veterans, spouses and dependents of veterans and meet with new and prospective student veterans from all majors across the college. Manager will advise students and provide information on all phases of the veterans' process in person or by the phone or e-mail.
Manager will be the OCC liaison when engaging with community partners to bring awareness and support to the student veteran population and will provide linkage to community services to all student veterans, spouses and dependents as well as any local community Veterans. Manager will maintain a smooth operation of the Owens Veterans Services Center and will work with the Owens Foundation and Alumni Association while engaging community support.
Manager will be the backup processor to complete all GI BILL certifications.
Essential Functions:
- The Manager facilitates matriculation of all veteran students attending OCC.
- The Manager will serve as the College's School Certifying Official.
- Will assist veteran and active duty military students, and their dependents in coordinating veterans education benefits.
- The Manager will assist students in monitoring and evaluating their progress toward reaching their educational goals in accordance with regulations according to both Owens CC policy and the Department of Veteran Affairs policy.
- The Manager counsels Veteran students and helps them develop educational plans in relation to their receipt of education benefits from the government.
- Manager will maintain a caseload of current veteran students and meet with new and prospective veteran students from all majors across the college. They advise students and provide information on all phases of the veterans process in person or by the phone or e-mail.
- The Manager serves as a liaison between veteran students and the OCC faculty, Staff, and outside entities.
- Manager will promote College's services and opportunities to area military installations, organizations, and entities. Develop, carry out and measure a recruitment and retention plan for veteran, active duty military students. Work collaboratively with staff from the Office of Admissions, Advising, Marketing and other campus and community offices.
- Manager will provide support in the form of supervision and training for the School Certifying Official and VA work study students. This will include knowledge of all veteran benefits from the Department of Veteran Affairs, and college policies and procedures related to Owens Community College.
- Manager serves as the contact person for the ConAP program, Ohio National Guard Scholarship and tuition assistance used by all veterans.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal veterans programs and educational benefits that are provided to veterans and the family or spouse of a veteran.
- Knowledge of State or Federal law in relation to the military.
- Knowledge of VA ONCE certifying computer system. Knowledge of VA services provided to disabled veterans.
