Job Summary
The Crane Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing the design, development, and installation of heavy equipment industrial crane systems. This role ensures compliance with safety standards, optimizes performance, and leads a team of engineers, fabricators and installers to deliver high-quality solutions for material handling operations.
Duties and Responsibilities- Leadership & Management: Supervise and mentor the engineering staff, including supervisors, fabricators and installers by fostering positive employee relations and promoting a collaborative, high-performance work environment. Allocate resources and manage project timelines to meet operational goals.
- Design & Development: Oversee the design and specification of heavy equipment industrial cranes, hoists, and lifting equipment. Ensure compliance with OSHA, ANSI, and other relevant safety and engineering standards.
- Project Management: Manage end-to-end crane fabrication, installation and modernization projects. Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams for seamless execution. Collaborate with the Sales Manager to review completed projects and identify opportunities for improved quoting accuracy and design enhancements through the installation process.
- Maintenance & Reliability: Develop preventive maintenance programs and troubleshooting technical issues. Implement reliability engineering practices to minimize downtime.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and company safety policies.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive innovation in heavy equipment crane technology and automation solutions. Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements.
- Administrative & Operational Authority: Perform administrative functions, such as reviewing or writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, or purchasing of materials or services.
- Authority to stop production: Stop production in the event poor quality, unsafe parts or conditions appear.
- Other duties: Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate Supervisor and/or Manager, which may be outside the scope of responsibilities noted above.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred). - Professional Engineering (PE) Certificate preferred
- Experience:
Minimum 7+ years in industrial crane engineering or heavy equipment design. - 3+ years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of crane systems, load calculations, and structural integrity.
- Proficiency in CAD software and engineering analysis tools.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
