Job SummaryThe Box Office Assistant is responsible for providing patrons with superior customer service while selling tickets, subscriptions, and memberships over the phone and in‑person, leading to customer satisfaction and retention. They also assist with front‑of‑house activities during events at the Freed Center and ensure that the experience of each patron is enjoyable and safe. The assistant is expected to maintain professional behavior, accuracy, and availability for evening and weekend events.
Responsibilities- Communicate arts information for events, including making recommendations for additional events (suggestive selling).
- Accurately record sales and patron data in the customer relationship management software.
- Develop relationships and rapport with patrons and constituents including alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff, and friends of the University.
- Provide administrative support to the Director, including correspondence and research.
- Assist with implementation of marketing and advertising campaigns.
- Accurately balance daily accounting sessions, including check, cash, receivables and credit card sales.
- Manage routine patron problems and questions.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of policy and software.
- Assist with front‑of‑house operations during events: ushering, scanning tickets, maintaining order, ensuring safety rules and published policies, guiding patrons to exits, and providing instruction and assistance in case of emergency.
- Availability to work evening and weekend events, sometimes scheduled during Homecoming Weekend and the beginning of Thanksgiving Break.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Basic math/banking skills (calculate figures and apply basic algebra).
- Exceptional computer skills, including ability to learn and use new software.
- Ability to handle cash responsibly and accurately.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents and present information to various audiences.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Punctuality.
- Ability to represent the University and the Freed Center positively.
- Interest in the performing arts (preferred).
- Must be enrolled as an ONU student.
- Good academic standing.
