Financial Aid Specialist
The Financial Aid specialist assists and works under the direction of the Director of Financial Aid to administer federal and institutional student aid programs for College of Nursing and School of Medical Imaging students. The Financial Aid Specialist provides financial aid counseling, processing/administrative services and manages documentation as it pertains to student aid.
Essential Job Functions
- Serve as the initial point of contact and inquiry for the Office of Financial Aid, providing information to all students and prospective students concerning the financial aid process.
- Communicate with students regarding financial requirements, including financial literacy, entrance and exit counseling and debt management.
- Maintain student files (electronic and hard copy). Monitor all files consistently to ensure required and updated documentation.
- Assist director in processing student loan applications.
- Ensure accurate data entry and maintenance of files in software systems.
- Partner with the Office of Admissions to orient new students.
- Enter scholarship awards to prospective and current students, confirming that all criteria are met before awarding.
- Ensure accurate allocations and awarding of Federal Work-study Program and management of Federal Work-study participants.
- Monitor Campus-Based federal funding and scholarships to ensure funds are properly administered and funds are spent for each award year.
- Act as liaison with business office with regard to application of financial aid awards to student accounts.
- Assist in compilation of data required for reports required by the Office of Financial Aid to include, but not limited to FISAP, application to participate in federal loan programs, monthly reconciliations, etc.
- Keep abreast of changes in federal regulations related to Title IV financial aid.
- Implement best practices that improve and maintain customer service and communications with all campus constituents.
- Provide assistance in preparation for internal and external audits.
- Handle all student and campus information with confidentiality.
- Field email and phone inquiries regarding financial aid. Take appointments and walk-ins with students new and returning.

Bachelor Degree (preferred)
Certifications

Minimum Qualifications
1-3 years experience in higher education financial aid.
Knowledge of financial aid operations and federal regulations.
Strong communication and technology skills.
Working Conditions
Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.
Long-distance or air travel as needed - not to exceed 10% travel.
General office environment.
May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights.
May have periods of constant interruptions.
Required to car travel to off-site locations, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
Prolonged periods of working alone.
