Trust Company Family Offices is seeking an experienced, mid-level Investment Officer to join our dedicated multi-family office investment team. The position will manage assigned client relationships and implement customized, client-defined portfolios. The ideal candidate possesses approximately 7 to 15 years of relevant wealth management experience. This individual will successfully combine sound investment judgment, high-touch client service, clear communication, and an entrepreneurial working style.
The Investment Officer will work closely with a collaborative team focused on managing multi-generational family wealth and institutional pools of funds.
- Lead management of assigned portfolios for individuals, families, trusts, foundations, and institutions.
- Implement customized portfolios based on each client's investment policy, risk tolerance, return objectives, tax situation, liquidity needs, time horizon, and governing documents.
- Construct portfolios using approved strategies, external managers, funds, individual securities, and liquid alternative investments.
- Coordinate distributions, gifting, capital calls, and other cash-flow needs across client accounts.
- Review performance and attribution relative to client objectives and appropriate benchmarks.
Monitor and report on portfolios for regulatory compliance.
Client Advisory & High-Touch Service- Serve as a primary investment contact and build deep relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Provide timely portfolio reviews explaining performance, positioning, risk, and recommendations in a clear and practical way.
- Anticipate client needs and provide responsive follow-through on questions and action items.
- Coordinate with administrative officers, trust, tax, operations staff, and external advisors, while maintaining clear documentation of decisions and responsibilities.
- Monitor market conditions to translate insights into opportunities and risks for client portfolios.
- Contribute to investment committee decisions and working group discussions to formulate investment policy for client portfolios.
- Diligence/evaluate investment vehicles and external managers based on philosophy, process, people, performance, fees, and risk.
- Contribute to internal investment projects that provide improvements and efficiencies for the group/firm.
- Collaborate with investment officers, administrative officers, operations professionals, and other colleagues; provide guidance to junior team members.
- Build and maintain relationships with local centers of influence, including attorneys, accountants, financial professionals, bankers, business advisors, and community leaders.
- Represent the firm in our community and professional settings by volunteering, serving in board positions, and contributing to worthwhile client causes.
- Identify outside-held assets and unmet needs within existing client relationships and work with the family-office team to earn a larger share of the client's overall financial relationship.
- Help clients evaluate consolidating assets held with other advisors by demonstrating the benefits of coordinated portfolio management, reporting, planning, fees, and service.
- Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or business.
- Approximately 7-15 years of progressive experience as a portfolio manager or investment officer.
- CFA charter strongly preferred; CFP, CAIA, MBA, or other relevant credentials are helpful.
- Relevant knowledge of asset allocation, portfolio construction, public and private investments, manager selection, performance measurement, and risk management.
- Experience serving high-net-worth families, trusts, foundations and other institutions.
- Strong communication skills for client interactions as well as for team/firm interactions.
- Strong technical skills using investment and analytical tools (Bloomberg, Excel, PowerPoint, Morningstar Advisor).
- Personable, relationship-oriented, and genuinely interested in clients and colleagues.
- Self-directed and entrepreneurial, with initiative and consistent follow-through.
