Job DescriptionLeads the Office of Government Relations and Community Engagement. Serves as the chief government relations officer for UToledo spanning local, state, and federal government relationships and provides key insights to and oversees UToledo’s contract lobbyists. In consultation with the President and President’s Cabinet, directs UToledo's Government Relations activities at the local, state and federal levels. Responsibilities include planning and development of the institution’s response to proposed legislation;
developing and maintaining effective relationships with government agencies and officials; analyzing, assessing, and advocating on legislative, administrative, and regulatory government activities as they pertain to UToledo programs including academic, research, athletics, and health care programs, activities and operations; and communicating these activities and information to internal and external stakeholders in partnership with UToledo’s contract lobbyists. Oversees community engagement for UToledo including university sponsor ships, partnerships, events, and programming to align with the strategic priorities of the University.
- A master’s or advanced degree in political science, public policy, or law, or significant experience in government or higher education;
- At least 7 years of experience working in government relations, or a university office with a major portion of responsibility related to government relations and/or community engagement;
- Minimum of five years of supervisory experience (seven years preferred);
- Experience serving as the primary point person for visits of high political office, including governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives, White House visitors including cabinet holders, and senior agency officials at the state and federal level.
