Zepf Center has been serving the Lucas County community for over 50 years. We are the leading provider of behavioral health and substance use disorder services in Northwest Ohio. Services include adult and child psychiatric, substance abuse, case management, residential, Crisis Care, and therapy programs, as well as career development and wellness services. Zepf Center also offers primary care medical services to our patients to contribute to their continuum of care.

Zepf Center is a trauma-informed agency and environment for both patients and staff.

We are currently seeking a Full-Time outpatient Chemical Dependency
Counselor Assistant (CDCA). The Outpatient CDCA provides trauma-informed, client-centered substance-use counseling services to individuals and groups within an outpatient setting. This role supports clients in achieving and maintaining recovery through evidence-based interventions, individualized treatment planning, and collaborative care. The CDCA conducts urine drug screenings, completes timely and accurate clinical documentation, and facilitates individual counseling sessions while leading and co-facilitating therapeutic groups.

In alignment with OCDPB Twelve Core Functions and Competencies, the CDCA performs screening, intake, orientation, comprehensive assessment, treatment planning, counseling, case management, crisis intervention, client education, referral, consultation, and reports/recordkeeping. The CDCA participates in and utilizes weekly clinical supervision to support professional development, ensure quality of care, and maintain compliance with ethical and regulatory standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ongoing Support: Provide continuous support, encouragement, and engagement to clients throughout treatment to help sustain commitment to recovery.
  • Client-Centered Care: Create and maintain a supportive, trauma-informed, and client-centered environment that integrates evidence-based harm-reduction counseling approaches.
  • Positive Work Environment: Maintain a calm, cooperative, and professional attitude in all interactions, contributing to a positive and supportive environment for clients and colleagues.
  • Motivational Techniques: Utilize motivational interviewing and other evidence-based strategies to enhance client readiness for change and support progress toward recovery goals.
  • Treatment Services: Deliver high-quality Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment services in accordance with program standards, agency policies, and scope of practice.
  • Group Facilitation: Facilitate and co-facilitate therapeutic groups and provide coverage for groups requiring a qualified facilitator, ensuring adherence to curriculum and clinical standards.
  • Individual Counseling & Assessment: Provide individual counseling services; complete ASAM assessments and timely ISP development and reviews in accordance with medical necessity and regulatory requirements.
  • Client Initiation & Engagement: Conduct outreach and engagement activities to support timely initiation into treatment and improve client retention in services.
  • Orientation to Services: Provide client orientation to program expectations, available services, and levels of care; assist clients in selecting appropriate services to meet individualized treatment needs.
  • Psychoeducation & Counseling: Provide SUD education and counseling services that increase client understanding of addiction and recovery while promoting lasting wellness within CDCA scope of practice.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation, including ISP reviews, ASAM assessments, safety plans, relapse prevention plans, urine drug screening documentation, and progress notes in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary treatment team to support integrated, coordinated care and optimal client outcomes.
  • Professional Conduct: Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions with clients, staff, and community partners, fostering a respectful and supportive workplace culture.
  • Ethical Standards: Adhere to the OCDPB Code of Ethics for Chemical Dependency Professionals and all applicable laws, regulations, and agency policies.
  • Professional Development: Maintain active credentials and licensure; participate in weekly supervision, required trainings, and staff meetings to support ongoing competency development.
