Job Title
Patient Access Specialist – Part Time 3rd Shift 11pm‑7:30am (weekend rotation required).
Location:
Mercy – St Anne Hospital, Toledo, OH.
$17.00 – $18.15 per hour based on experience.
Job Responsibilities- Assign accurate MRNs and complete medical necessity/compliance checks.
- Provide proper patient instructions and collect insurance information.
- Receive and process physician orders, utilizing an overlay tool.
- Operate the telephone switchboard to relay incoming, outgoing, and inter‑office calls.
- Adhere to policies and provide excellent customer service with compassion.
- Meet assigned point‑of‑service goals.
- Utilize quality auditing and reporting systems to ensure accounts are corrected, including accounts for other employees, departments, and facilities.
- Conduct audits of accounts, ensuring all forms are completed accurately and timely, meet audit standards, and provide statistical data to leadership.
- Pre‑register patient accounts prior to patient visits, including inbound/outbound calling for demographic, insurance, and financial information, and collect point‑of‑service collections and past‑due balances with payment plan options.
- Explain and obtain signatures on general consent for treatment forms and obtain witness information.
- Explain and distribute patient education documents such as Important Message from Medicare, Important Message from Tricare, Observation Forms, MOON form, Consent forms, and other future service forms.
- Review eligibility responses in the insurance verification system; select the applicable insurance plan code and enter benefit data to support POS and billing processes for a clean claim rate.
- Accurately screen medical necessity using Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) software; inform Medicare patients of possible non‑payment of tests and distribute ABN appropriately.
- Distribute and document other designated forms and pamphlets.
- Walk from room to room and push a 10‑pound mobile computer station throughout the shift.
- 1+ years of customer service experience.
- Open to innovation, including AI, to explore better processes and improve patient and client experiences.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- CRCR within 9 months of hire (company paid).
