Job Description:

Maintains standards of professional nursing practice and coordinates total nursing care for patients undergoing various cardiovascular diagnostic and interventional procedures. Provides leadership by working collaboratively and cooperatively with other health care members. Considers specific age and cultural needs of the patient when providing care.

  • Employee is expected to adhere to UTMC Service Values including iCare standards at all times.
  • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures as well as addresses patient safety, performance improvement, and quality of care issues.
  • Adheres to all radiation safety issues by wearing badges, lead and recording length of exposure to patients.
  • Adheres to NPSG 07.01.01 by effectively washing hands when going from one patient to the next.
  • Knowledgeable about patient safety and quality of care issues. Able to recognize safety issues in the department and handles incidents per institutional and/or departmental policies and procedures. If safety issues were identified; all issues were handled timely and appropriately.
  • Department education and training focus has a direct impact on patient safety and reduces unsafe working conditions for employees.
  • Employee attends and follows all department specific safety education and training in an effort to create a safe work environment.
  • Recognizes Frayed Cord:
    Reports equipment dysfunction in timely manner. Make sure alternate process is in place and action is taken. Reduces adverse results or impact to patient care and the employee.
  • Recognize exposure to Blood:
    Worked as a team to limit exposure and create a safe work environment. Safety concerns:
    The manager has been timely with staff training and education. Wiping up spills.
  • Follows standardized approach for handoff communication. Follows policy for communication including the opportunity to ask and respond to questions.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Indicate minimum required to qualify or perform this job.)

  • Current RN licensure in the State of Ohio.
  • Previous Cardiac experience required
  • Previous Cardiovascular Laboratory experience preferred.
  • ACLS certification.
  • Working knowledge of all cardiac arrhythmias, sterile technique, management of the acutely ill patient, and other procedures in the cardiovascular laboratory.
  • Must be willing to work very flexible hours and rotate shifts.
  • May be required to assume charge nurse role.
  • Physical requirements:
    • a) visual acuity of 20/20 or corrected to 20/20 including color vision when applicable;
    • b) ability to hear (with or without aides)
    • c) ability to orally communicate
    • d) good manual dexterity
    • e) ability to push, pull, roll, and transfer/lift 50 pounds occasionally
    • f) ability to stand, walk frequently
    • g) ability to bend, reach, stoop, kneel frequently; and
    • h) ability to perform CPR (if a required for position).

  • Communication and other skills:
