Description

The IP Patent Assistant will assist patent attorneys and patent agents with high volume patent matters end-to-end from preparation to maintenance. This will include various domestic and international filings, correspondence with agents, clients, and inventors, and related tasks. Our ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of patent experience with a strong understanding of the United States patent process.

Where You'll Work

The IP Patent Assistant role is an hourly non-exempt position and will work full-time at our Toledo, Ohio office. There is a possibility of remote for an experienced candidate.

What You'll Do

  • Draft, proofread, send, file and manage correspondence internally and externally, as well as memos, contracts, forms, and other relevant documents
  • Prepare and file Information Disclosure Statements, U.S. patent applications and various types of responses to Office Actions
  • Correspond and provide updates to foreign associate network for non-U.S. patent matters
  • Provide status updates to clients both domestically and abroad
  • Coordinate with U.S. Patent and Trademark Office staff to resolve issues related to patents
  • Assist attorneys on non-patent and trademark intellectual property matters
  • Perform post-allowance diligence, pay patent issue fees and close files
  • Schedule and manage all appointments and contact lists as necessary
  • Work collaboratively with firmwide intellectual property team
  • Review and revise billing as appropriate
What We’re Looking For
  • Minimum of high school diploma required; bachelor’s degree or higher preferred
  • 2+ years of experience with patent experience preferred
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of United States patent processes
  • Experience filling PCT patent applications
  • Strong understanding of patent and trademark terminology
  • Advanced technical skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Project and case management skills, including a strong aptitude for managing and prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines with a high attention to detail
  • Superior research, organizational and verbal and written communication skills

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting position, static for up to one-half hour at a time, up to six hours per day.
  • Standing and walking regularly, up to two hours per day.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds occasionally.
  • Bends and stoops occasionally, up to one-half hour per day.
