All activities must support the Lucas Metropolitan Housing Authority (“LMHA” or “Authority”) mission, strategic goals, and objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The position duties and responsibilities listed below describe the general nature and scope of work. Other responsibilities, duties, and skills may be required and assigned, as needed.

  • Tracks, assists in, and helps manage pending activities of the Legal department.
  • Responds to requests for information from housing participants, residents and third parties consistent with applicable laws, particularly Ohio’s Sunshine Law.
  • Processes, tracks and maintains records for all Legal Department matters, including Reasonable Accommodation Requests consistent with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Performs administrative duties as needed, or as directed by the Chief Legal Officer.
  • Communicates with third parties, like insurance companies, outside counsel, governmental agencies, contractors, advocacy groups, or other interested groups or parties.
  • Performs legal research; analyzes and provides insight regarding the effect of legislative developments as well as administrative and judicial decisions relevant to LMHA’s mission.
  • Prepares drafts of legal documents, including, but not limited to, contracts, policies, procedures, agreements, pleadings, briefs, administrative filings, legal memoranda, letters or other documents necessary to respond to the specific matter.
  • Communicates with appropriate LMHA staff to prepare all documents necessary to advance LMHA’s interests in litigation, transaction, contract, or other legal matters.
  • Maintains the “No Trespass List” tracking documents and correspondence to affected persons.
  • Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA/PERRP safety standards that pertain to essential functions and maintains licenses and certifications as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience

Associate’s Degree in paralegal studies or related field and a minimum of three (3) years of related administrative or paralegal experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Must possess a valid Ohio or Michigan driver’s license and be insurable under the Authority’s plan.

Technical Skills

To perform this job successfully, the employee should have strong computer skills (e.g. MS Word, Excel, and Outlook). Must have the ability to learn other computer software programs as required by assigned tasks including, but not limited to, case tracking, legal research, and human resources related software.

To perform this job successfully, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position. Daily movements include sitting; standing; operating computers and other office equipment; moving about the office; and attending onsite and offsite meetings. The employee must be able to communicate via email and verbally via telephone. The employee must occasionally transport up to 25 pounds.
