Summary

Keep premises of buildings in clean and orderly condition.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Cleans and polishes lighting fixtures, marble surfaces, and trim.
  • Cleans rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, and locker rooms and other work areas.
  • Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floor.
  • Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies.
  • Dusts furniture and equipment.
  • Polishes metalwork.
  • Washes walls, ceiling, and woodwork.
  • Washes windows, door panels, and sills.
  • Empties wastebaskets, and empties and cleans ashtrays.
  • Transports trash and waste to disposal area.
  • Replenishes bathroom supplies.
  • Cuts and trims grass, and shovels snow.
  • Delivers messages.
  • Transports small equipment or tools between departments.
  • Sets up tables and chairs in auditorium or hall.

Work Environment

Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. Noise level usually loud.

Physical Demands

Stand; walk; sit; use hands for finger motion, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; climb stairs; lift and/or move up to 50 lbs regularly.

Qualifications

Education and/or experience:
Less than high school education; up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

Reasoning ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
