Position Overview

Plant Operator – Airgas, Toledo, OH (R). This is a permanent replacement position created to fill roles vacated by employees on strike. The role supports the Valley View facility’s filling operations, handling gaseous, liquid, and medical cylinders in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and the standard operating procedures of Airgas.

• Inspect cylinders prior to filling in accordance with government, Airgas, and distributor standards.
• Conduct safety checks, including odor tests, cap and valve integrity, and analysis of product purity and mixture.
• Handle high‑pressure, medical, and liquid cylinders, including preparation of cylinders and cryogenic vessels for filling.
• Attach cylinders to manifold and evacuate to eliminate contaminants before filling by pressure and weight.
• Assist with loading and unloading of cylinders on pallets and tractor trailers.
• Operate forklift, pallet jack, and other warehouse equipment.
• Manage paperwork to DOT, FDA, OSHA, and Airgas standards, completing quality control sheets as required.
• Identify hazards of various gases, read and interpret cylinder labels and color‑coding, and accurately label cylinders.
• Comply with all government and company standards for handling hazardous materials and gases.
• Maintain a neat, clean, and orderly plant appearance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of one year of prior experience in a manufacturing operation, filling, or loading (preferred).
• Strong background in gas, welding and safety supply, or chemical industry preferred.

• Outdoor setting with seasonal weather variations; temperatures range from
  -10 to over 100 degrees.
• Exposure to loud noises and odors that may be sustained over long periods.
