The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) functions within a collaborative agreement with supervising Physician. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works both autonomously and collaboratively within a Standard Care Arrangement (SCA) or Supervision Agreement (SA) to evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage work-related injuries and illnesses, as well as provide preventative and regulatory occupational health services to employees and employer groups.
The APP serves as a clinical resource to employers, employees, case managers, and interdisciplinary team members while ensuring compliance with state, federal, and employer-specific occupational health regulations.
Position Highlights- Demonstrates clinical competency in evaluation and management of occupational injuries and illnesses across the working-age population.
- Performs focused on occupational health assessments including work-related injury evaluations, return-to-work assessments, and fitness-for-duty examinations.
- Conducts physical examinations including pre-employment, DOT, surveillance, and regulatory-required physicals.
- Obtains comprehensive occupational and exposure histories.
- Diagnoses and treats acute and chronic work-related conditions.
- Identifies deviations from normal findings and collaborates with supervising physician when indicated.
- Writes prescriptions and orders laboratory, radiology, and diagnostic studies relevant to occupational injury and disease.
- Interprets laboratory and diagnostic findings commonly associated with occupational exposures and injuries.
- Performs minor procedures including wound care, suturing, splinting, and foreign body removal as appropriate.
- Administers immunizations and provides preventative health services (e.g., TB testing, respiratory clearance, OSHA surveillance).
- Provides post-exposure evaluations and management (e.g., blood borne pathogen exposure).
- Evaluates and manages Workers’ Compensation cases in accordance with Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) guidelines.
- Determines work status and establishes appropriate work restrictions.
- Develops and communicates return-to-work plans.
- Completes required Workers’ Compensation documentation accurately and timely.
- Communicate with employers, case managers, and adjusters regarding patient progress and work capacity.
- Facilitate referrals to specialists and therapy services as appropriate.
- Monitor treatment outcomes to promote early and safe return to work.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and other regulatory standards.
- Conduct and/or participate in employer-specific health surveillance programs.
- Provide consultation to employers regarding workplace health trends and injury prevention.
- Support drug and alcohol screening programs per regulatory requirements.
- Maintain documentation and regulatory standards in accordance with state and federal guide
- Collaborates with supervising physician and interdisciplinary team members.
- Communicate effectively with employers, HR representatives, case managers, and ancillary staff.
- Acts as mentor and resource to nursing and clinical support staff.
- Maintains professional standards of attendance, appearance, and conduct.
- Promote teamwork through collaboration and effective communication.
