Certification in IV Therapy required for those administering dialysis.

Must-Have:
Completion of an approved course in medication administration.

Description:

This position is for approximately 6 months. The candidate will receive a two-month notice if a state nurse is hired. The shift is from 2 PM to 10 PM, Monday through Friday. This is an all-male facility. Candidates must be comfortable with frequent stair climbing/descending. The work environment consists of one building with two total floors. Training will be provided for two weeks.

Training includes pill call pass training and pharmacy training. Nurses will work closely with doctors and patients.

Job Duties in Order of Importance:

  • Administers nursing care within the scope of practice as defined by the Ohio Revised Code. This includes administering oxygen, applying sterile dressings, inserting catheters, and reinserting gastrotomy tubes.
  • Nurses perform suctioning, irrigating wounds, and collecting specimens. They assist with dialysis treatments, operate hemodialysis equipment, and monitor patients during procedures.
  • Nurses aid physicians during physical exams, treatments, and laboratory tests. They respond to emergencies by administering first aid, performing CPR, and restraining patients as necessary.
  • Nurses administer controlled and non-controlled medications in various forms and provide medication instructions to patients. They maintain medication accountability records, document and report patient conditions, and prepare related reports.
  • Providing general nursing care includes taking vital signs, assisting with personal grooming and hygiene, and administering topical treatments. Nurses may escort patients, assist with recreational activities, and provide one-on-one or group activities as outlined in treatment plans.
  • They are responsible for providing assistance and direction to lower-level direct care staff. Nurses attend and participate in meetings and training programs as assigned. Duties also include ordering medication and medical supplies, and cleaning the nursing station and medication areas.
  • Clerical tasks such as answering phones and filing are part of the responsibilities.

Major Worker Characteristics:
Knowledge of skilled licensed practical nursing procedures, pharmacology, and client/patient care. Familiarity with first aid, CPR, hospital practices, and HIPAA regulations is required. Skill in using medical equipment and performing tasks related to nursing care is essential. The ability to understand practical applications in the field and handle both concrete and abstract variables is necessary.
