Primary Function/General Purpose Of Position

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)-Nurse Anesthesia Program, Assistant Program Director, is a full-time member of the Mercy College Division of Nursing and graduate faculty, with all the rights and responsibilities of a faculty appointment. The Assistant Program Director is responsible for coordinating and providing leadership for all aspects and activities of the DNP-Nurse Anesthesia Program to ensure a quality program that delivers exemplary student outcomes.

The DNP-Nurse Anesthesia Program Assistant Director is responsible for program administration, assisting in maintaining/writing/supporting program accreditation, curriculum development, review, and assessment, assisting with program budget preparation and management, oversight of faculty, collaboration with clinical partners to ensure quality clinical experiences, collaboration with key stakeholders, and student recruitment and retention.

Essential Job Functions
  • In collaboration with the Academic Dean, DNP-Nurse Anesthesia Program Director, and faculty colleagues, develops, implements, reviews, revises, curriculum and completes internal and external assessment, and institutional effectiveness processes including but not limited to annual reports and accreditation reports; assists with maintaining all necessary components of program accreditation (Council on Accreditation (COA) of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs and Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • In collaboration with the Dean of Nursing, the APD will assume full-time administrative leadership duties if the DNP-NA Program Director is unable to perform these duties.
  • Maintains a teaching workload related to classroom, clinical, and laboratory instruction.
  • Oversees the nurse anesthesia residency experience in collaboration with the DNP-Program Director, Clinical Affiliation sites, and the Academic and Clinical Coordinator.
  • Participate in annual application review/evaluation/selection of candidates and candidate interviews.
  • Participates in a community advisory group related to community needs and clinical partnerships established by the DNP Nurse Anesthesia Director.
  • Participate in local, regional, and national specialty organizations/conferences/meetings to remain current on issues that may impact the nurse anesthesia program, nurse anesthesia education, and practice.
  • Works with the Program Director, Director of Simulation and IPE, and other faculty to ensure appropriate coordination of the didactic and simulation aspects of the Program.
  • Collaborates with faculty and support services to ensure quality student outcomes.
  • Collaborates with DNP-NA Program Director, faculty, Admissions team, and Academic and Clinical Coordinator to support student recruitment, admissions, and advising.
  • Responsible for assisting in reviewing and updating DNP-CRNA student and clinical handbook and policies contained within.
  • Maintains Clinical Practice.
  • Supports the mission, vision, and values of the college, division, and program through teaching, service, and scholarship
  • Participates with Program Director in evaluation of faculty and adjuncts.

Licensing/Certification
  • Current unrestricted license to practice as an RN/advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) in the State of Ohio-Ohio Board of Nursing. (Required)
  • Current certification and recertification for Nurse Anesthetists:
    National Board of Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA). (Required)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification
    - American Heart Association (Required by start date)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification
    - American Heart Association (Required by start date)
Education
  • Doctor of Nursing Practice, Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice, or a Doctor of Philosophy (Required)
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Anesthesia Program (Required)
  • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (Required)

Work Experience

Minimum 2-years or more experience in the certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) role in the clinical practice setting. (Required)

Minimum 1-year Teaching/education Experience. (Preferred)

Accreditation experience (Preferred)
