Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring 2 years of acute experience and telemetry/observation skills at a Level I trauma center.

Details
  • Mixed unit combining PCU, Med Surg Tele, and Med Surg patients
  • Observation unit setting with a length of stay goal of 18-24 hours
  • Patient ratio of 1:4 on all shifts
  • Adult and geriatric patient population with diagnoses including chest pain, atrial fibrillation, TIA, GI bleed, CHF, COPD, seizure, and post-outpatient surgery complications
  • Approximately two-thirds of patients are managed by EDOBS providers located in the department
  • Day shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (6:45 AM - 7:15 PM)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating required within service line and across Toledo, Flower, Bay Park, and Wildwood facilities as needed
  • Float units may include Neuro/Stroke, Cardiac, Orthopedic, Trauma, Oncology, General Surg, and Uro/Vascular
  • EPIC charting system required
Requirements
  • Active OH or compact RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of acute care experience required
  • Charge nurse experience required
  • Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
  • Must be familiar with intermediate medication drips (heparin, nitro, cardizem, insulin, etc)
  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Level I trauma center experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Observation medicine experience preferred
  • First-time travelers accepted, with preference given to those with prior Level 1 or 2 trauma experience
Additional Information
  • Provide telemetry and observation-level nursing care within a fast-paced mixed PCU/Med Surg Tele/Med Surg unit
  • Manage cardiac drips (without titration) and interpret/manage dysrhythmias
  • Perform cardiac monitoring and emergency response
  • Utilize isolation precautions and PPE as needed
  • Manage non-invasive airway support and nasal cannula use
  • Facility is a Level I trauma center and the largest acute care hospital in the Toledo metropolitan area
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Requests for time off greater than 7 days require management approval
  • Local candidates within 50 miles are not accepted
  • Block scheduling is not accommodated
  • Schedules may change with two-week notice from the facility to balance staffing needs
  • Previous employees must have a 1-year break in service to be eligible for rehire
