Quality Control Technician
A manufacturer of food cans in Toledo, OH is looking for a Quality Control Technician to help inspect, test, and document activities associated with food-grade metal coil coating operations. This 3rd shift position (11p-7a) is temporary with no end date currently scheduled. Pay rate for this position is $24.72/hr.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesReporting directly to manufacturing floor supervision and management, the Quality Control Technician responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Performs routine inspections and testing of raw materials, in-process components and finished products.
- Tests products to ensure product is running within spec in the manufacturing process and reports issues and concerns to the appropriate departments and individuals
- Conduct coating performance tests including, but not limited to:
- Dry film thickness (DFT)
- Adhesion and flexibility tests
- Cure verification tests
- Visual appearance and surface defect inspections
- Monitor manufacturing or operational processes to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards. Ensures all equipment, guards and safety devices are in place at all time, and follows safe work procedures and safety rules
- Record and analyze test results; maintain accurate documentation and reports.
- Maintain traceability of materials, test results, and production lots.
- Identify defects or deviations and communicate findings to supervisors and production team.
- Work with production and engineering teams to resolve quality issues.
- Assist in investigating quality issues and implementing corrective actions.
- Support standard work, procedures, and quality training initiatives.
- Interact and report to the Quality Manager in the creation and revision of SOP’s as changes and additions require
- Keeps work areas clean, safe and organized
- Utilize check sheets and graphs to track causes for production problems, statistical process control requirements and spoilage concerns
- Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned
In addition to the specific responsibilities listed above, the ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Minimum Requirements:
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment specifically related to quality assurance or production control
- Previous experience in keeping accurate records, the ability to analyze data and draw conclusions
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects at the same time
- Must be available to work various shifts if needed and be able to work nights, weekends, and overtime to cover absences or provide additional support
- Preferred Requirements:
- High School Education/GED or equivalent
- Knowledge of Six Sigma, SPC, and Lean Manufacturing
Ø Strong problem-solving skills through an individual and/or collaborative approach
Ø Ability to work independently or with a team
Ø Must be able to look at new solutions and “think creatively and strategically” to solve problems
Ø Effective leadership skills such as conflict resolution, communication, decision making, etc.
Ø Demonstrated employee relations skills and the ability to motivate people
Ø Excellent time management and project management skills as well as the ability to multi-task
Ø Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ø Math and computer skills and working knowledge of various Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Access, etc.)
Ø Ability to read and interpret specifications and work instructions.
Ø Ability to perform inspections and measurements using standard quality tools.
Physical RequirementsØ While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and may be required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
Ø The associate may lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on occasion
Ø Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus
Ø The employee must be able to work up to twelve (12) hours shifts, both day and evening.
Ø Comply with all safety rules, PPE requirements, and plant policies.
Ø Perform duties in a safe and responsible manner at all times.
Working ConditionsØ The majority of work will be in a plant environment but may be required to move around to different parts of the manufacturing floor
Ø While performing the duties of this job, the associate will be exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicular traffic in the plant
Ø The associate may be exposed to a wide range of temperatures
Ø The noise level is frequently loud
