Job Description

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow serves as an independent researcher or collaborator on a research program. This role may lead discrete components of a larger project under the general direction of the Principal Investigator and is responsible for experimental design, data interpretation, manuscript preparation, and dissemination of results.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated research experience in a field relevant to the laboratory’s program.
  • Strong record of productivity in experimental research, analysis, and scientific communication.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Design, plan, and execute research experiments aligned with laboratory objectives.
  • Analyze, interpret, and present research data.
  • Develop or refine methodologies, assays, and experimental workflows.
  • Mentor trainees and assist with training when appropriate.
  • Prepare abstracts, manuscripts, reports, and grant-related materials.
  • Maintain detailed research documentation and ensure data integrity.
  • Contribute to project planning, timelines, milestones, and collaboration.
  • Participate in lab meetings, seminars, and scientific presentations.

The word “manage” should only be used when the duty involves managing people.

Job Duties Percent of Time
  • Design, conduct, and optimize independent and collaborative research projects, including experimental design, execution, troubleshooting, data collection, and interpretation of results (55%)
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data; prepare manuscripts, abstracts, presentations, progress reports, and contribute to grant applications and scientific publications (20%)
  • Develop and implement new methodologies, mentor graduate students, research assistants, and trainees, and provide technical guidance on laboratory procedures and research activities (15%)
  • Participate in laboratory meetings, scientific seminars, collaborative projects, compliance activities, and perform other research-related duties as assigned (10%)
