Job SummaryThe Line Technician’s primary responsibility is to trouble‑shoot and maintain the RF and fiber portion of the system from each node to termination including node equipment, fiber optic cable, forward, return, modem, ingress, leakage, DCT, HD related equipment and digital services. The Line Technician assists the network‑facing technicians, along with demand calls. The Line Technician turns on and tests new or modified system plant and other special assignments as needed.
Line Technician reports directly to the Supervisor, Technical Operation; there are no direct reports to this position.
- Performing trouble‑shooting, repairing and ongoing maintenance of RF and fiber portions of the system from the node to termination.
- Performing turn‑on and testing of new system additions and modifications.
- Assisting the network‑facing technician to resolve trouble ticket issues in a timely manner.
- Interfacing with Power Node Technician and Hub Technician to resolve system issues.
- Understanding and using trouble‑shooting equipment including but not limited to Bit Error Rate detector, Spectrum analyzer, Time domain reflectometer, Optical light meter, Constellation meter, fusion splicer, fault locator, Optical time domain reflectometer.
- Computer skills as listed but not limited to:
Microsoft Office, System prints, Wonder share, Xpertrak, PEA, Apache open office. - Presenting an acceptable, courteous and professional image; maintaining good customer relation skills with our customers and the general public at all times.
- Helping to create an atmosphere of positive teamwork, cultural change and employee relations.
- Reading cable and fiber blueprints.
- Using proper phone, text and email etiquette.
- Assisting in various projects as needed.
- Following and enforcing the Company’s policies and procedures, including the EEO guidelines and safety, at all times.
- Performing any miscellaneous department duties as needed.
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent - required
- 5 years of previous experience in the Telecommunications industry – required
- Physical ability to climb poles and ladders - required
- Physical ability to lift 100 pound objects - required
- Attention to detail – required
- Ability to work independently, with little or no supervision - required
- Demonstrate via written and/or oral testing the ability to troubleshoot system problems from the Node to the Home – required
- DOT physical and certification - required
- Demonstrate the ability to trouble‑shoot, break out and splice fiber after training is complete
- Verbalize a commitment to provide value service to the contracted customer.
- Verbalize an interest and commitment to meeting the goals of the Company through assisting customers.
- Background record that meets Company standards.
- Valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company standards at all times.

Walking, kneeling, standing, regularly lifting up to 100 pounds, stooping, crawling, climbing telephone poles, stairs, and ladders, sitting, driving, hearing, talking, vision, use of hands and fingers to grasp, hold, pick‑up, rotate, keyboard, etc. Ability to work at elevated heights upwards of 30/40 feet for extended time. Ability to work in confined spaces for extended time. Ability to differentiate multiple colors of fiber.
