Position Summary

The Line Technician’s primary responsibility is to trouble‑shoot and maintain the RF and fiber portion of the system from each node to termination, including node equipment, fiber optic cable, forward, return, modem, ingress, leakage, DCT, HD related equipment, and digital services. The Line Technician assists the maintenance technician in adding and removing network‑facing technicians, along with demand calls. The Line Technician turns on and tests new or modified system plant and other special assignments as needed.

The Line Technician reports directly to the Supervisor, Technical Operations. There are no direct reports to this position.

Essential Functions
  • Accountable for performing all duties of the Maintenance Technician.
  • Perform troubleshooting, repairing, and ongoing maintenance of RF and fiber portions of the system from node to termination.
  • Conduct turn‑on and testing of new system additions and modifications.
  • Assist the Maintenance Technician in resolving service call issues in a timely manner.
  • Interface with Power Mode Technician and Hub Technician to resolve system issues.
  • Utilize troubleshooting equipment, including Bit Error Rate detector, Spectrum analyzer, Time Domain Reflectometer, Optical Light Meter, Constellation meter, fusion splicer, fault locator, and Optical Time Domain Reflectometer.
  • Use computer skills such as Microsoft Office, AutoCAD LT, POP 2000, System prints, Wonder share, Xpertrak, PEA, Apache Open Office.
  • Assist with various projects as needed.
  • Present a courteous and professional image and maintain good customer relations.
  • Help create a positive team‑work environment and support employee relations.
  • Follow and enforce the Company’s policies and procedures, including the EEO guidelines and safety, at all times.
  • Perform any miscellaneous department duties as needed.
  • Read cable and fiber blueprints.
  • Use proper phone, text, and email etiquette.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent — required.
  • 5 years of previous experience in the Telecommunications industry — required.
  • 12th grade level math ability — preferred.
  • Ability to read and spell English properly — required.
  • Physical ability to climb poles and ladders — required.
  • Physical ability to lift 100‑pound objects — required.
  • Attention to detail — required.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision — required.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot system problems from the node to the home — required (via written and/or oral testing).
  • DOT Physical and certification required.
  • Demonstrated ability to trouble‑shoot, break out, and splice fiber after training is complete.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands
  • Physical demands: walking, kneeling, standing, regularly lifting up to 100 pounds, stooping, crawling, climbing telephone poles, stairs, and ladders, sitting, driving, hearing, talking, vision, using hands and fingers to grasp, hold, pick up, rotate, keyboard, etc.
