Water Reclamation Maintenance Worker

POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision performs work of moderate difficulty in repairing, adjusting, and maintaining a wide variety of mechanical equipment within all areas of the Water Reclamation Plant and related facilities; performs related work as required.

This position is the entry level into maintenance functional areas within the purview of the Water Reclamation Division.

• Performs the oiling and greasing of heavy mechanical equipment such as shafts, motor bearings, sprockets, drive chains, gears, and pulleys.
• Disassembles, cleans, and washes tubes and heat exchangers.
• Repairs, adjusts, and replaces chains, sprockets, and engine parts on bar screens, rakes clarifiers, grit buckets, ejectors, and related equipment.
• Replaces large piping and elbows, threads pipe, and re-packs pumps as required; welds, cuts, and brazes as required in conjunction with general maintenance work.
• Performs light carpentry and cement repairs at a sub-Journeyman level; machines replacement parts for equipment when unavailable or difficult to obtain.
• Sets up and operates portable equipment such as sandblasters, welders, pumps and air compressors.
• Operates forklifts and backhoes to lift and move heavy items and to perform grounds maintenance.
• Paints and applies sealers, tars and epoxies using such things as brushes, rollers and spray guns.
• Assists in the maintenance of lift stations and regulators; may assist skilled trades personnel in the repair and overhauling of diesel engines.
• May provide work direction to lower classifications in the performance of cleanup or grounds maintenance activities and assumes responsibility for quantity and quality of work performed.

• Graduation from high school or General Educational Development (GED) Tests equivalency, and two (2) years of general maintenance work experience which includes plumbing, mechanical, and building maintenance.
• One (1) year of general building and/or mechanical maintenance experience in a State of Ohio Class IV water reclamation facility (or equivalent in another state) may be substituted for the two (2) years of general maintenance experience.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Position assignment may require the ability to wear respirators and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and to work in confined spaces.

In this position, the employee will occasionally stand, sit, climb, push, pull, drag and/or carry up to 40 pounds. The employee will frequently walk in all-weather conditions. Occasional stooping, kneeling, crawling and crouching may occur with this position. Speaking and listening are constant essential functions of this position.

The employee is frequently indoors and outdoors. This employee will occasionally work in extreme heat. This employee will frequently work in conditions where fumes and mists are presents. In addition, this employee will occasionally work in conditions where poor ventilation, dust and gases are present. This employee will be occasionally exposed to various hazards. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
