This role combines installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of voice, data, and communications networks. Candidates may be experienced or entry‑level; paid apprenticeships and training are available and include manufacturer certifications, BICSI certification, and degree options.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Pull, terminate, and splice cables.
  • Utilize Fluke testers.
  • Install telecommunications equipment, switches, routers.
  • Install communication closet building ladder racks.
  • Install cable trays for communication cabling.
  • Follow industry standards.
  • Read blueprints.
  • Coordinate with contractors efficiently.
  • Pull and install horizontal cable, including Cat5, Cat6, fiber, coax, AV wire, and security cable.
  • Configure, maintain, and resolve issues of data network and telephony systems in accordance with conventional processes and standards.
  • Operate, oversee, and service multiple communications devices in voice and data networks.
  • Evaluate and test voice and data network infrastructure.
  • Develop knowledge of structured cabling installation procedures and standards, including BICSI, ANSI, EIA/TIA, electrical code, and manufacturer requirements for copper and fiber optic infrastructure.
  • Pull, route, install, and terminate structured cabling and data infrastructure in a commercial environment for low‑volume systems including voice/data/network, audio‑visual, and security systems.
  • Perform maintenance, evaluation, repair, and upgrades of commercial structured cabling systems.
  • Install cable pathway systems (cable trays, cable racks, J‑hooks, or D‑rings).
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry is preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards.
  • Valid Driver’s License or Commercial Driver’s License where applicable.
  • Analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective communication in English and collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
  • Safe use of hand tools, power tools, and industry test equipment.
  • Safe work practices on ladders and lifts.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow project blueprints, diagrams, specifications, schematics, and plans.
Physical Demands

The job requires walking, using hands and fingers, reaching, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Frequent standing and occasional sitting are required. Lifting or moving up to 50 pounds is necessary. The role demands good vision, including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.

Work Environment

Work may be outdoors, in wet or humid conditions, around moving mechanical and electrical parts, high or precarious places, dust, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, or outside weather. Noise levels are usually moderate to loud. Field locations may involve hiking to job sites or navigating varied terrains.
