Description

Harbor is seeking a contingent Youth Mentor in Toledo. This position provides vocational rehabilitation services, job coaching services, and will transport clients and visit them at worksites.

Position is contingent, working on an as‑needed basis; may work evenings and weekends, but will primarily work a 1st shift.

Education / Experience
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma/GED equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree or teaching/training experience preferred.
  • Two years teaching/training experience required.
  • Must be proficient and accurate in computer use, including Microsoft Word.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and proof of personal auto insurance to be deemed insurable with Harbor’s vehicle insurance carrier.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification required within 90 days of employment.
Essential Job Competencies Documentation
  • Responsible for the quality and completeness of the electronic record.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely documentation, including progress notes, time sheets, ROARs, Monthly Participant Evaluations, Corrective Action Plans, job coaching plans, iWAM alerts, Incident Report forms, and any other required forms.
  • Types documentation in the format appropriate and acceptable to Harbor.
  • Maintains active communication with funding source, case managers, and supervisor regarding client progress.
Evaluation
  • Provides Job Coaching, Tutoring, Career Club, Job Seeking Skills Training (JSST), and/or job development activities for youth.
  • Evaluates work site for appropriateness for placement (e.g., safety, supervision, adequate workload).
  • Ongoing evaluation to ensure business continues to meet program requirements.
  • Analyses job duties and work environments, breaking down jobs into trainable steps for clients.
  • Evaluates worksite/employee job match and may complete worksite job analysis.
  • Assesses client readiness for employment and formulates appropriate interventions to assist progress toward employment goals.
  • Assists client in identifying interests, skills, and aptitudes to explore vocational choices.
  • Provides assistance with information on the effects of employment on entitlements and financial assistance (e.g., SSI/SSDI, Medicaid, Medicare, Section 8, Food Stamps).
Ongoing Interventions
  • Provides individual and/or group job coaching or lessons at work site or after‑school program site.
  • Assists client in developing employment opportunities and acquiring necessary job skills.
  • Performs outreach to engage clients in vocational services.
  • Consults with supervisor regarding referrals for vocational or community programs/services.
  • Provides support, education (benefits counseling, risks and benefits of employment, job‑seeking skills) and consultation to clients, families, and significant others.
  • Develops employment opportunities and supports learning of job skills as needed.
  • Performs community outreach to engage clients and provide support services.
  • Provides coaching and mentoring to maintain and retain employment.
  • Provides support to participants for problem‑solving and managing barriers to participation and employment (e.g., childcare, health care, transportation).
  • Utilizes effective tutoring techniques to improve basic skills or complete school assignments.
  • Stays current with trends related to essential job competencies and demonstrates continued growth.
Collaboration
  • Assists client and family in increasing social support skills and networks.
  • Coordinates evaluations and assessments by internal and/or external providers.
  • Monitors all services identified in referral or IOP.
  • Provides assistance in accessing community resources and linking with vocational resources (OOD, ODJFS, BWC, etc.).
