Purpose

The Guest Support Specialist promotes wholeness in a person's life by providing emergency and supportive services that eradicate poverty and homelessness, enhance quality of life, and provide a buffer against adverse life events. The role delivers quality social support services—spiritual, emotional, instrumental, informational, and fellowship—conducting admission and intake, safety multi‑support team meetings, and ensuring appropriate acuity level needs are met.

Essential Functions
  • Engage and provide generous hospitality for all guests seeking services at Cherry Street Mission.
  • Conduct admission and intake screening, provide referrals to Ready for Life Program, High Acuity Program, or other applicable tracks.
  • Assist Community Resource Navigators and allied partners in contacting difficult‑to‑reach guests and ensuring streamlined communication.
  • Enter information and documentation into software accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Answer incoming calls related to Guest Services and Programs.
  • Monitor building safety and flow (entering/exiting).
  • Conduct crisis intervention and debriefing when necessary, including verbal de‑escalation.
  • Perform Guest Residential check‑in process if assigned to shelters.
  • Encourage guests in their personal goals and acknowledge milestones.
  • Greet and provide direction to volunteer teams, donors, and community service providers.
  • Seek to advance required skill sets by attending internal and external training and all mandatory staff meetings.
  • Perform accurate risk assessment and implement harm‑reduction techniques (mindful of personal and others' safety, reporting security breaches).
  • Maintain professional, moral, and ethical boundaries (confidentiality, respect differences, concise documentation).
  • Uphold all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and read, understand, and follow written policies.
  • Report incidents and respond to emergencies accordingly.
  • Identify facility issues and submit timely work requests.
  • Provide Christ‑centered guidance, model a life of wholeness, and participate in faith community activities.
  • Support the organization by upholding Cherry Street Mission Ministries' mission, vision, and values in behavior and speech.
  • Collaborate with Residential Support Specialist to ensure building needs are met if assigned to shelters.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in mental health field, shelter care, or similar preferred.

Licenses, Certificates, and Other Requirements
  • Driver's License required.
  • Mental Health First Aid Certified (or to be completed within first year).
  • Suicide Prevention Training (or to be completed within first year).
  • Trauma‑Informed Care Training (or to be completed within first year).
  • CSMM Discipleship Training.
Work Environment

Exposure to various hazards may occur at low to frequent levels; hazard categories include fumes, humidity, biological hazards, and others. The role is primarily sedentary with occasional standing and walking, and requires light handling of items up to 20 lbs.
