Job Summary

The Warehouseman is responsible for efficiently managing the receipt, storage, and distribution of materials within the warehouse. This includes operating forklifts to move products, maintaining accurate inventory, preparing shipments, and ensuring a safe and organized warehouse environment. The role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and effective communication with team members and customers to meet operational goals. The Warehouseman plays a key role in supporting daily warehouse operations and ensuring timely and accurate order fulfillment.

Essential

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Unload incoming materials from flatbed trailers, box trucks, and other vehicles.
  • Load outgoing materials onto customers’ vehicles, trailers, and other transport.
  • Perform hands-on tasks with concrete forming systems, including accurately pulling customer orders, processing returns, cleaning forms and accessories, and updating inventory.
  • Accurately manage inventory of building materials, including counting stock, conducting inventory, palletizing outgoing shipments, receiving inbound products, and transferring materials between pallets.
  • Safely operate forklifts (6,000+ lb capacity) to move a variety of materials including pallets, pipe, rebar, wire mesh sheets, and brick cubes.
  • Safely and efficiently operate end loaders with two-cubic yard capacities or more.
  • Interpret product labels and maintain knowledge of building materials to ensure accurate order fulfillment.
  • In-person attendance is required.
Other Required Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in concrete forming area as needed. Duties to include pulling customer orders, checking in customer returns, assist in cleaning of forms & accessories, and returning items back to inventory
  • Maintain an organized yard and manage yard materials effectively.
  • Provide exceptional customer service through clear, accurate, prompt, and courteous communication with clients.
  • Other duties may include sweeping, shoveling, cleaning the warehouse or yard, painting, cutting re‑rod and steel lintels, and repairing fire hydrants.
  • May be assigned additional tasks and duties by management.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rainy conditions.
  • Safely access and navigate the facility, including climbing and descending ladders.
  • The position will require work outside of normal business hours.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and standing.
Skills/Abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Must maintain professional relationships with managers and colleagues.
  • Represent The Gerken Companies to customers in a professional manner, supporting the company’s goals.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with concrete products and their applications, such as patching material, sealers, forming systems, and decorative-concrete materials, is a plus.
Education and Experience
  • Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited high school is required.
  • Minimum two years of work experience, with construction-related experience preferred.

Schedule:

Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Seasonal Saturdays: 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. (May–September)

Flexibility:
While most work is performed during regular business hours, employees may be asked to stay later to complete daily tasks. Some staggered shifts may also be scheduled to provide coverage until 6:00 p.m.
